We seem to be lacking photos...
  • Just pay for the repair yourself, get over it and move on. The least number of people you mention it to the better .....oops bit late for that.

Business use insurance might not be needed.

She is a care worker and was going to someone's house to do her job.
If the OP's wife gets paid for the time she is at the house in question, something that is sometimes the case then surely driving to that house is commuting.
It would be different if they drive from house to house whilst "on the clock" but at the moment we don't know if that's the case.

    Go on...

Only if that's her sole permanent place of work - ie, she provides full-time care at that property alone. If she's driving between properties to care for multiple people per shift, then that's definitely business use, not commuting.

But we know that the OP said it was the first time she'd ever been in that road, don't we?

We know it SHOULD be, legally.

I drove into a hidden metal post on the edge of a bush in a station car park , the bush had obviously over time covered the post only got myself to blame. Last week in Sainsburys i saw some OAP drive straight into the lamp post when trying to park, dont think they realised they even did it , couldnt exactly not see it.

It absolutely is needed. Every insurer treats the "Commuting" part of a SD&P&C policy as to one place of work so needs business insurance. She doesn't have just one place of work, she has more than one if she cares for more than one person and if she is paid mileage or wages for the time she is travelling she is doing business travel.

I think a photo is best, as I'm finding it hard to imagine what it looks like.

Well, I'm currently with Admiral and although their definition of commuting is also to one place of work, I have 3 different bases that I have to go to.
I contacted Admiral before taking out my policy and was assured that provided I only have to drive to one base, do my work and then travel home I am covered for commuting only and it's only if I move between bases during a working day that I need business cover. (I asked if the call was recorded and it was and I've made sure I kept a record of the exact time and date of the conversation).
  • Doubt your claim would get anywhere.

Cant see its the councils fault anyway. Your wife drove into a stationary object.

Some companies have insurance policies that cover employees cars for business use. Domino's have such a policy, as did a previous employer of mine.
