It really isn't worth it, no matter how satisfying it is. Just ease off, let the idiots in and have a chuckle to yourself when they're right in front of you at the next roundabout, lights or queue. Sooner or later one of them will be gormless enough to try and push in anyway and you'll be one of the hundreds on here complaining about how your insurance company is making life difficult after a side-swipe.Yes some drivers do this all the time. There is one part of the A38 between Huthwaite and Sutton-in-Ashfield, which is on a slight downhill gradient. Approaching the end of a Dual carriageway and a closing lane into two lanes, clearly signed for about ½ a mile, drivers race to overtake at over the 70 limit, in order to get there first. It is really, really dumb: I never let them in, just close right up. Seeing the rage on their faces is pathetically amusing. Once I even had a huge truck trying it on - it was a local haulage firm and the driver must have known about it. I didn't let him in, neither did anyone else. He was till there in my rear mirrors when I passed around the bend.0 -
It's stupid when folk all get into line 800 yrds before a lane closure then get upset when someone tries to merge. Maybe if you weren't a sheep and continued to use both lanes you would be a mile further up the road by now.
Obviously not in the OPs case, but in all other general roadwork cases.0 -

Would have been interesting to see how thing would have turned out if he's pulled in anyway, wouldn't have gone well for you or the cars around you.0 -

It could easily have been an advisory on lane closed ahead. Passing a yellow arrow pointing to the left is also not an offence.
Your post was as clear as mud.
If you're going to rant, at least be clear what you're ranting about
I said the lane was closed not that it was closing. How much more specific do you want me to be.
Closed = not open0 -

Closed = not open
Because there is a whole world of difference between a matrix sign showing one lane open and a red cross.
One is illegal to cross, the other not. The addison lee driver would have just kept going. for a while longer had it been otherwise than a red X. He took action (stupidly as it happens) that were an attempt to not cross a red X.
Also many misunderstand the yellow arrow as lane closed, which isn't what it means.0 -
If there is a red X above the lane then it's illegal to drive in it, heard this on the radio advert 3 times recently (I knew this before anyway).
Edit: Read further on it was a red X.0 -

No he didn't. He'd already passed it, quite a way back. That's why I said he was in a closed lane, not approaching one.0 -

You could say it 100 times in bold capitals but some people will still argue for the sake of it rather than admit that they didn't read the post properly and made a mistake.
Why some people are like that is beyond me.0 -

Have you heard of context? You didn't put anything in.

What need is there to guess about anything?
The OP clearly stated that the vehicle in question was in a lane that had closed and not that it was approaching a lane that was about to close.
To me, the context is fine.Nodding_Donkey wrote: »I was overtaken by an Addison Lee people carrier travelling in a closed off lane.0
