I used to use AdBlock on Google Chrome. It seemed to work fine, and you could switch it on and off easily. (I'd say be careful when downloading things, though. I've recently had a piece of malware infect my computer and it's proving hard to get rid of.)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. ublock origin is a current favourite.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
In Firefox, I use uBlock Origin and Ghostery. Some people also suggest NoScript.
I should point out that Mozilla are playing silly b*gg*rs with extensions as from v 55.0.3, marking some as Legacy and possibly disabling them. I think that their intention is to delete them as from v57, presumably if they are not changed to match whatever new standards have been defined. Undoubtedly uBlock Origin will be updated in time, but you may have problems until then...0 -

Yesterday I noticed uBlock Origin had vanished from my Firefox, something related to being legacy, however it re-installed OK. Maybe they have updated it and my version was out of date.
I also run Malware Bytes (paid for version, runs in the background constantly monitoring), it seems to be excellent at blocking malicious stuff, much more effective in my opinion than anti-virus. There seems to be quite a few links on web sites that are either false positives, or the sites have been hacked to change links to point at malware sites, in either case it is safer to have them blocked.0 -
You may like to investigate using new kid on the browser block https://brave.com/
Comes ready configured with blocking "Browse faster by blocking ads and trackers that violate your privacy and cost you time and money."
I am using it as I type, really fast browser for meEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Those affected by uBlock Origin being made legacy and/or not working in Firefox 55.0.3 might like to try the development channel version 1.14.3b0 (or later).
Go to the bottom of this webpage, expand Development Channel, and Download from there. Obviously beware the fact that this is beta code so may contain bugs...0 -
thank you so much for all your help. Much appreicated0
