"Do I have PPI to claim" template letter

Surprisingly I cannot find anywhere in the internet a simple template letter saying "Hey fat cats, my name is Joe Doe, DOB 1/1/1999, I believe I had/have credit card/mortgage/loan with you, do I have any PPI to claim?".
The ones I found (e.g. this one) are a later stage one when you definitely know you have PPI to claim.
Can anyone point me into one?

Exactly, that's why I want to find out first.

A PPI complaint requires you to make an allegation of wrongdoing. Your template doesn't state what the wrongdoing allegations are.

    Hi.
What you should do is go to look at your credit history. you can easily do this for free. it's on the first page of the PPi claiming page and reads like this:
"How do I know I had it? Help. I can't find any paperwork. Check all old loans, credit cards, mortgages, store cards and overdrafts to see if there was PPI. It will have been called something like 'payment insurance' or 'accident or sickness cover'.

    - Can't remember who your lender was? All debts active in the last 6 years are on your credit report(s). Get your Experian report (from the UK's largest credit reference agency) for free via the MSE Credit Club, plus see how to check other reports. It won't tell you if you had PPI, just which lenders to check with."

So no there isn't a blanket letter you can fire off to every lender there ever was and hope that one of them can remember you. but if you check your credit report you might find a loan or credit card you might have had PPI with and you could write and ask them.

You don't require a template letter to find out if you had PPI.

All you have to do is ask your lenders directly if you had the insurance. Telephone or write to them.

Do be aware that it is not automatically wrong to have insurance; in order for it to be refunded you'll need to show it was somehow mis-sold to you (if indeed you had it)

That's it. Is there an appropriate template letter anywhere?

    "Dear previous lender

Did I have insurance with you?

    Yours sincerely,

The FCA has updated its webpages to help people find out more about PPI and how to check if you had a policy and help you decide whether to make a PPI complaint.

    See here https://www.fca.org.uk/ppi/

There is a section on “How to check if you had PPI” which has info on “how to ask a provider if you had PPI”

You can actually search for a bank or other providers to find out how to contact them to ask if you had PPI and several of them have an online PPI enquiry form.

Still no template letter here - https://www.fca.org.uk/ppi/how-to-check/ask-provider

Post #8 of this thread is perfectly succinct and clear as a template.

But if you can post here (repeatedly), you can surely write your own letter simply asking if you had PPI?
