Metro Bank

Hello

I want to open a Metro Bank account. I do not have the best credit file, no CCJ's, two late payments and high utilisation of available credit. I want to close anotherbank account inthe process and transfer direct debits etc, so the basic one will not be suitable.

Does anyone know what they are like with adverse credit? I have recently applied for Coop and got declined (to give you an idea). I dont really want to go into a branch to be declined as its embarassing.

  • Unlikely if you have any defaults at all on there, regardless of age, or if paid off.

I tried to open one back in May. Got told no. Waited for a final default to disappear from my file in July. Tried again in August. Got accepted.

Before I tried Metro I had been accepted for Nationwide Flexdirect, Co-Op, 2 Tesco accounts.

I have no defaults. Just signed up for credit club, I am on 0% for pretty much everything. Cant get a Nationwide account, only the basic one
  • Probably still be out of luck tbh. I think being a new bank, they're adverse to taking on any kind of risk, for now.

Best bet is a credit builder credit card, and use that to build up your credit history.
  • I have plenty of cards, just all up to their limits. I am not asking for an overdraft with them, just a normal bank account. I want to get away from Santander

How long is a piece of string?

No-one is likely to be able to tell you, they appear to offer a cash account and will probably offer that should their standard account be declined.

Banks will now generally offer you their basic account if the standard is declined - if you really want to ditch Santander.

What about Halifax, TSB or Nationwide?

Nationwide I cannot get - they offered me their basic account - thats a step down from my current 123 account.

I am unable to accept Metro's basic account due to not beingable to set up diret debits with them.

I have looked into Lloyds, Halifax and TSB but would like to work out which I have more of a chance with before doing another search

Just go into a Metro Bank and give it a try, no need to be embarrassed if they decline, they will be very nice about it and it probably happens often.

Their FlexBasic account seems to offer all the facilities of their FlexAccount bar an overdraft and chequebook.

I especially don't understand the relevance of a 'step down comment' from someone that is getting refused accounts.

I read he got rejected for one account. He may feel that because he has a full account with offline debit card etc (maybe), he is worried that he wont get the same with a basic account?
  • . I want to get away from Santander

Having been with Santander for a decade with no issues, I wonder what is the root cause for your desperation.

Your other posts do suggest an adverse Customer Service experience.

Is it an isolated one or a longstanding dispute?

Either way, good luck in your search for the holy grail.

It's not going to be easy if the reason for your malign of Santander is of a struggling financial stature.
