Massive final dual fuel bill
Hello
Thank you for reading
I have just switched my dual fuel supplier, and I have received a massive final bill of £331.24
I did send an email to my old supplier asking why I did get this big bill all the end
And I did get this email below as answer
I confirm, we've issued you a final bill to an actual meter reading of 13409 (gas) and 41078 (Rate 1 electricity) and 15445 (Rate 2 electricity) as on 13 July 2017. The bill period is from 29 January 2017 to 13 July 2017. In case, if you think we've billed you with an incorrect meter reading, please reply to my email with an actual meter reading and I'll be happy to re-bill it for you.
The usages for your 165 days of gas is 798.72 KWH and 166 days for electricity Rate 1 is 837KWH and Rate 2 is 275 KWH.
The current balance on your account is £331.24 in debit. This amount will be debited from your bank account within 3 days of 14 August 2017.
I did check the meter reading and it is correct
I would like to know if I was charged correctly
Thank you in advance for your support

If the previous meter reading and the current meter readings are correct, and the amount charged per unit is correct on the bill, then the bill is correct.
When did you last submit a meter reading? If not submitting regularly it's not unusual for the estimates or direct debit amount to be somewhat off the mark.0 -
Don't think we can work out if you have been charged correctly without knowing your tariff or unit charges. That should all been given on the last bill. So if the meter readings are correct as you say just do the maths. I.e. used units times charges plus staining charge etc minus what you've paid since January. This should all be detailed in your last bill.03/26: OD £1200 600 500, CC £3914 3317, family £3100, loan £5618 5306 5036- total: £13832 12323 12003, mortgage £58,243 £57,766 571140

There is a load of confusion here. Suppliers cannot amend Final Bills just because a customer sends in some actual meter readings WITHOUT raising a formal Agreed Readings Dispute with the gaining supplier. The transfer process is designed such that the gaining and losing suppliers work to the same set of verified meter readings. An ARD can take up to 12 weeks to resolve (that said, most are nothing more than a telephone call between the two suppliers).
I suspect that you have what is known as a 'catch up' bill as previous estimates of your usage were wrong. How much notice did you take of your previous bills and were you providing monthly meter readings to your supplier? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thank you very much for your reply
I did always submit the right reading when they asked me to do so
the cost of gas per unit is 3.410p
cost of electricity per unit is 16.630p day and 5.650p
thank you very much again for your support0 -
Thank you very much for your support I did post already the unit charges andthriftylass wrote: »Don't think we can work out if you have been charged correctly without knowing your tariff or unit charges. My Tariff name Fixed Price July 2018
Payment method Quarterly Variable Direct Debit
Tariff ends on 31 July 2018
Exit fee (if you cancel this tariff before end date) Not applicable
Annual usage
(based on your estimated use in the last 12 months)
2040.22 kWh
I did the math as you suggested but i do not understand my gas charges here below, if the difference as you may see here below is 50 and 22, between my readings, i do not understand why they multiplied 552.50kwh and 246.22kwh ?
29 Jan 2017 - you gave us your meter reading 13337
30 Apr 2017 - you gave us your meter reading 13387
Actual units used over 92 days 50
(Unit calorific value for this period 38.9)
Gas units converted into kWh 552.50
Cost of gas (552.50 kWh x 3.410p) £18.84
Standing charge
29 Jan 17 - 30 Apr 17
92 days at 24.770p per day £22.78
1 May 2017 - you gave us your meter reading 13387
13 Jul 2017 - final meter reading 13409
Actual units used over 74 days 22
(Unit calorific value for this period 39.4)
Gas units converted into kWh 246.22
Cost of gas (246.22 kWh x 3.410p) £8.40
Standing charge
1 May 17 - 13 Jul 17
74 days at 24.770p per day £18.32
Total gas used £68.34
VAT at 5.00% £3.41
Total gas including VAT £71.75
Thank you very much again for your support0 -
You do not buy gas by meter units. It is sold in kWh which is roughly 11.2 per meter unit (cubic meter). That multiplier is variable and decided by the quality of the gas supplied which is the calorific value mentioned on the bill. The calculation used is kWh = cu.m x 1.02264 x calorific value / 3.6.
Looking at your post #5 it seems that your direct debit was not sufficient to cover your use and you have been building up a debt from before last winter. This final bill has caught up with that.0 -

Thank you for your reply... i think it is because i was on a fixed rate tariff, you can see all the transactions since i joined this supplier Thank you!0 -
It's pretty obvious from your postings that your DD hasn't been keeping up with your consumption and that the debit amount on your bill has been increasing over the period.
You should really have noticed that you were underpaying and got your supplier to increase the DD to cover it.
Make sure that in future you monitor yor statements monthly by giving readings to your supplier, cehecking that they are being entered properly and making sure that your DD's are on track to balance your account by the end of of your contract.
It does help if you keep your own spreadsheet as well.
I've been doing it for quite a few years and I know within pence how much I owe the energy co or viceversa just by putig my meter readings into my spreadsheet.
I'm on track (assuming that the weather is relatively normal) to owe my supplier around £3.83 at the end of my contract in December. Obviously it will be a bit more or they may owe me a couple of quid but it shouln't be significantly more than £20 either way.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
