Easy way to back up a phone please

My husband's phone has broken - the battery has blown so it needs to be sent back to the manufacturer. It is a Samsung Galaxy A3.

We have been told to back up everything to a computer as they will need to wipe the phone. Is there a simple way of doing this and then putting the info back again? I have been trying to find a simple step-by-step guide but confusing myself. He does not use cloud, email (though I set an account up years ago for him for facebook etc) or anything more technical than his phone.

Can someone point me in the right direction on the easiest way to do this? Thanks.

If the battery has gone and it wont power up I am struggling to see how you can get anything off it. Unless I am missing something?
  • Luckily the battery will still power up, though it will suddenly drain down to zero. I'm hoping I can do something before it drains completely.

And what happens if you plug a charging cable in? (Assuming you haven't been told not to do that on safety grounds.)
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Samsung Kies is the phones backup tool .

Blown battery don't be surprised if Samsung reject it for warranty .

It charges ok. Samsung have told me now not to switch it on or charge it. They are collecting it from my home tomorrow.
  • I have found something called Samsung Smart Switch which I have done a back up to. Fingers crossed. Thanks for all your help.

Samsung Smart Switch is the replacement for KIES but I am surprised it worked with a Samsung 3. In Smart Switch you are offered a choice (via tick box) of what you want to back up. I do this every time I am forced to do a software update and before I allow the update.
