  • Thanks. I plan on having it fully on at home where it can use my WiFi and then using the battery saving function when I go out. It switches off all but the very basic apps.

I'd suggest you start with a 30 day SIMO until you know what your monthly usage is likely to be. This gives you scope to adapt to best meet your needs.

The recommendation wasn't PAYG but Sim Only. 30 day contract.

These 30 day sim only deals, seam to be not as available, as they once were.

    Plusnet do them stil

I would recommend the 500mb one £5 (if the minutes look right for you)

Get off PAYG asap if you top up monthly
  • Oh, I missunderstood. Thanks for the info and link. The £5 one is spot on for me.

Be careful over usage of data with a smart phone, they can suck 500MB of data in just one bunch of app updates. Those contracts with small amounts of data are barely adequate if you are away from home (and free local) WiFi much. The "smart" part of smart phone is to be able to use data while out and about.

There are some good deals on SIM only, you are taking the best approach and won't be tied to a phone + SIM package that usually lasts 2 years.

Giving it a try with PAYG first is very sensible.

I'm pretty certain there is the option to update only over wifi connection.

Usually the default setting on Android Play.

I'm interested to know where all these bad reviews are for the Moto G!?

There's enough in these review links to put me off but I can see why some people like them

I have the original Wileyfox Swift and love it, this is the latest Swift 2, a great phone and the only British mobile company.

There will be some here who might mention a problem with the previous Operating system, Cyanogen Mod. That was upgraded to Android Nougat by the company, free. CM was a derivative of Android, but the company collapsed so Wfox upgraded all phones and now they all run stock Android.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

The battery capacity for a G5 is 2800mAh so charging it daily I would expect, my old Nexus 5 has a 2300mAh battery so maybe the reveiwer who didnt like the battery capacity expected too much.

For the price it is from JL I would be happy with the battery life, wasnt an issue for me to charge my Nexus up daily ad I did it at night.

Thanks for all your posts. They have been very helpful. I'm most likely going to get a Huawei P8 Lite (2017) and as suggested use my PAYG until I establish my usage. I looked at the Moto G but there are quite a few bad reviews.

I am in the same position as you. I have a P8 lite - the previous version. I find it good but the new one is better, I am informed.

I wanted better battery life and just missed out on the Lenovo P2 but 3 stopped selling it. (3 handsets are unlocked, so OK for me on O2)

I have just been emailed from John Lewis that the Moto G5S is in stock and reviews put that as an improvement on the G5.

I am going for a minimum of 3 Gb RAM as when the operating system and Apps are running, I often get a report relating to lack of RAM and one can only conclude that new versions of Apps and Android updates are not going to take less space when active. Not too worried about total on board storage if SD card can be used and, of course, there is also the cloud

Lastly, check what version of Android is loaded and whether updates are available.

If you have not got enough Data you could overruun your limit. I didn't go over my limit but saw one month that it was using a lot of Data. I had omitted to turn Data off when I was at home.
When I spoke to 02 they told me that although I was at home and assumed that I was using my WiFi I was told that if the signal was not as strong it was using roaming data.
I now only switch Data on when I.am out which is only maybe couple afternoons a week. Doing this I have no problems. As they could see that my use was low they gave me an extra 100mb for that month.
I didn't need it but it was there .
I write more texts than anything else. Browsing internet Facebook Read newspapers I don't use that many minutes as I can make mobile local and national calls on my home telephone with my package for Broadband and phone.
I have had absolutely no.oroblem with my Motorola 3rd Generation other than I am low on space now. Have had it 2 years
