  • Got my first ever payout from Sw@gbucks last week. £5 sent to my PayPal account. So £55.06 sent to the OP pot since last time I wrote on this diary. Food budget is very tight this month must be all this eating healthy. I might just be able to stick to the budget with the voucher Tesc0 sent me.

In other MSE news I have fixed the mortgage interest rate with my current provider at 2.09% for 62 months. This is 0.15% less than I was currently paying as was on a tracker rate and with all the talk about mortgage rates rising we decided to fixed the rate. I know that there are better rates out there but I didn't want the hassle of a remortgage and having to pay a big arrangement fee. It is nice knowing that at the end of this fixed rate we will hopefully be mortgage free.

Also got a 40% discount of my sim only deal this week saving £6.44 pm. I also need to cancel Sky this week and this will save me another £20 plus per month. I need to buy a free sat recorder box in the next month and that will be us sorted with no subscription costs.

    Have a good week everyone.

  • Haven’t posted for a few months but still working hard saving to clear the mortgage. We are still on track to clear the mortgage in 5 years. The net debt now stands at £54731.25. We reached our first milestone of getting the net debt down to £55000 on 07 December 2017 and are now working towards the second milestone getting the net debt down to £50000. We hope to do this by May 2018.

This years aims are to save a regular £675pm and then add any additional overtime, interest and other savings during the month. We have reduced most of our monthly dd’s for example cancel sky, cheaper mobile contract and fixing the mortgage rate. So only other savings to be made are with the food budget and any non necessary spends.

We are only 4 months into this journey and we have already got our net debt down by £4978.52. Nearly £5000 in 4 months:T. I am very happy with this and long may it continue.

Happy New Year to all my readers and may 2018 bring us love, happiness and a reducing mortgage balance.
