In my opinion your post does come over as being opportunistic and a compo grab. Sorry, just my view.

Perhaps if you could VIEW the burns on my thighs you may not be so unkind. An entire cup of hot liquid, even at only 85 degrees sitting in the fabric of jeans held against the skin for a number of minutes and therefore unable to cool quickly can, and has, caused severe burns to the skin. (And yes, I have had additional treatment since at the A&E burns unit.)

I was on an easyJet flight a few months ago when a passenger dropped (a lidded) hot drink on his lap. He was in the row ahead and to one side. The crew took him to the front galley and issued him with some ointment from the first aid kit and he went into the washroom to apply it. He returned shortly after and whilst with a stain and wet trousers was back in his seat, the crew gave him another hot drink.

My point exactly - it had a lid on so only a small amount could have fallen. And as I wasn't on that flight, I don't know, but perhaps the liquid was not as hot?

Just some advice from someone who might know was all I was after.

But anyone else who feels the need to condemn and put their twopenceworth in, feel free. I'll just ignore those posts. Thanks.

So you only want answers from people who agree with you?

    Good luck with that!

It's par for the course - good luck OP but maybe time to consult a NWNF lawyer rather than a group of common-sense randomers on t'interweb

So that was my question - I wondered if anyone had experience with this, and what would be usual.

Every circumstance is different, surely you have some idea of what you might expect, try and break it down.

How much do you think the injury is worth, how much pain or distress, how much inconvenience?

If you really have no clue then how do you think any figure can be settled, you wouldn't be happy with £1 and I wouldn't have thought would expect £100000, so what do you want £100, £1000....

Nwnf lawyers are a good filter as they'll only offer to act for you if they think there's a good chance of success.
  • I'd say you have a case.

Legal services helpline on a home insurance policy might be a starting point. If not, see a solicitor.

Keep notes, photos and ensure there are medical records.

Somewhere in the mid £hundreds may be possible.

Seat recline in economy should be outlawed.
  • I have read this entire thread and I fail to see why the airline is at fault.
Why didn't you hold your cup to stop it spilling if the tray was wobbly?
I think you should be pointing your anger at the passenger who reclined his seat.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)
  • In all my years of travelling I've never had coffee hot enough on any plane to burn. Unlucky there.

What a pathetic bunch of scroungers now inhabit this once great country !
I hope we never have to fight street by street against any invaders when a spilt cup of coffee is all it takes to disarm some of us
