fitting dishwasher into cupboard space

we have decided that we would like a dishwasher in our kitchen, its a new build (only got the keys yesterday)

yes i know we should have thought about it before so we could have asked them to leave a cupboard out but we didnt so tough luck for us.

i am told that the cupboard will just pull out once retaining screws are removed and the plinth is removed,my question is would the plinth go back in front of the dishwasher or will i need to chop the width of the dishwasher out of it? if so then what do i do about the exposed ends of plinth?

we do not want an intergrated washer and there is already a socket/pipework there ready and waiting.

my wood work skills are that of a very VERY simple man lol

Hi,

think the plinth clips to legs on cabinet, here's a wee video to give you an idea.

The plinth will need cutting so that it ends either side of the dishwasher.

'Measure twice and cut once'

Wrap a couple of layers of masking tape tightly around where your going to cut, mark all the way across the cut (make sure your line is 'square', use a sharp hand saw, and go steady and you'll be fine.

Your other option is, if work is still going on on site than ask a chippie if he wants to earn £20 cash.

yeah thats what i was thinking but it will leave 2 exposed ends of plinth (1 either side) so shall i just paint these or are they end strips you can buy to stick on?

I have edited my post, but in answer to your question it depends how much they show but, in order, I would be looking to;

1. Turn the plinths round if possible to hide the cuts;

2. Use iron on edging;

3. Paint edges to much (very much a bodge)

maybe if DW is recessed enough you could just refit plinth, removing any clips as necessary.

Every integrated DW I've fitted allows a continuous plinth.
However, you may need to notch the top of the plinth to clear the bottom of the DW door when open.

Yes, I agree ours has a continuous plinth.
