Have you actually tried saying NO! when the cat scratches anywhere you do not want it to?

I have had cats all my life and not one of them has ever scratched furniture or carpets, we have a new little lady name Elsa having sadly lost the last of our aged cats last May, she is now trained to not scratch, it is amusing that she will run up to furniture, see me then run to her scratching post.

I guess it helps that I am with her most of the time but when we do leave her alone she is never allowed in the lounge on her own, after all I am not there to shout NO! am I.

I also regularly trim her claws.

    Good luck

Yea, my cat waits until I am stuck in the loo doing my business so they know I can't chase them away from the carpet.
Gonna have to trick them when I remember.
