Meanwhile, Theresa May attempts to make "the plan" a reality in Japan this week, where May will seek assurances from Abe that the recently signed EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement can be applied to the U.K. after Brexit.......
Of course, this is assuming the EU finalizes its deal with Japan before Britain leaves the bloc, to ensure immediate continuity after March 2019. But to do this, the EU and Japan must first agree on key issues surrounding investor protection and data flows......
...watch this space...
...however, I'm guessing Japan needs all the friends it can get at the moment...0 -
Very funny article in the New Statesman. A bit of light relieve for us all.
http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/brexit/2016/08/top-10-reasons-brexit-isnt-working-according-brexiteers
The top ten reasons Brexit isn't working,
I have to quote 2, 8 and 9.
2. REMAINERS TALKING DOWN THE COUNTRY. God knows we tried to reach out to them, with our gently teasing admonitions for being elitist snobs who just needed to get over it. But did they concede that a glorious future is at hand, if only we all wish for it? No, my friends, they did not. Instead, they sulkily point out how the things they predicted would happen are in fact happening, as if this somehow proves they were right. And since, inexplicably, the world agrees them, the whiners’ prophecy is being fulfilled.
8. THOSE OTHER BREXITEERS (i). Not only can we not get the Remainers to present a united front to Brussels, it seems that we can’t even rely on our fellow Brexiteers. Most of us are on the same page: take back control of our borders, blue passports, compulsory blazers, onwards and upwards to the sunlit uplands. But there are some among our own ranks who frankly don’t get it. These latte-sipping media types simper on endlessly about the importance of retaining access to the single market and seem awfully keen on Norway. Why don’t they just go and join Remain?
9. THOSE OTHER BREXITEERS (ii). Hey guys, the problem is this: Brexit got hijacked by the roast beef and two veg brigade, OK? For us it was always about unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit, shaking off the dead hand of Eurocrat regulation, being more human, that kind of thing. We had to go along with all that anti-immigration stuff but believe me we were biting our tongues and crossing our fingers. Some of our best friends are Turkish. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Calm down dearest.
What is due soon; some statistics or a statement maybe?
Because there's always a reason for the sudden nonsensical "project fear"-type carp such as this appearing in the media.
And the sensible amongst us know that there can never be positivity without negativity.

Davis wants legal clarification from EU over Brexit payout
British negotiators said to have asked EU officials about legal principles Brussels believes should be used to calculate exit billDavid Davis’s negotiating team is demanding legal clarification from Brussels officials over its demands that the UK pay a substantial financial settlement as part of the process of quitting the European Union.
A senior government source said British negotiators have peppered EU officials with queries about the legal principles Brussels believes should be used to calculate the final exit bill.0 -
This from Davis too:Sky News has learnt that the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) has circulated invitations this week to captains of industry to discuss the series of position papers published by the Government in recent weeks.
The meeting between Mr Davis and business leaders, which will follow a similar summit held in July, will take place on 15 September at Chevening House, the country residence he shares with two other Cabinet ministers.
A source said on Wednesday that Mr Davis's invitation said he wanted to discuss views on the position papers "outlining our approach to both withdrawal and to our future economic partnership with the EU".
It's getting increasingly difficult for remain advocates to effectively argue that the wishes of the UK public and business are not being considered regarding Brexit.0 -
