Brexit, the economy and house prices (Part 3)

I see that Corbyn is trying to back May into a corner regards pay rises for groups like Nurses.
We all know Labour policy on spending, but don't you have to win the election to get to implement your policy?
This Brexit window seems a poor time to embark on ambitious spending plans in other areas.0 -
National turnout was 72.2%

That's higher than its been in general elections since about 1997

Low Scottish turnout dragged the figures down. Arguably you could say that Brexit had more of a party political flavour up in Scotland.
Maybe voters will turn out when they see it as a completely open vote?0 -
Low turnout is nonetheless responsible for brexit and trump. Maybe we've learned our lesson
Maybe you are simply running out of justifications for opposing the views of the many. While Trump may speak English. The US is a very different place to Europe. Don't paint people with your brush.0 -
POLES - btw - I've met dozens through martial arts and have to say every one of them was what one would deem a good egg. Lots of Polish clients too, same experience. On average I find them more classy than Brits and women are gorg! (E European in generally seem, ermm, fit as heck, tight a££es etc)
You need to get out more. They are no different to any other nationality. There's a real world outside your gated community.0 -

The Polish guys I used to work with travelled across Europe in a minibus to pack food products into various types of cardboard box. Young Brits living in the estate next to the packing house with minimal expenses couldn't be bothered with a 10 minute saunter to do the same job.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Just came across this leaked EU report again, surprised it doesn't get mentioned more;
The European commission’s Brexit negotiators must strike a “workable” deal with Theresa May’s government to protect the City of London or the economies of the remaining member states will be damaged, a leaked EU report warns.
The paper warns that UK-based financial services account for 40% of Europe’s assets under management and 60% of its capital markets business. “And UK-based banks provide more than £1.1tn of loans to the other EU member states,”

I have it on good authority (from you) that things will be just spiffy for the UK no matter what. If Johnny Foreigner won't play ball that's his look out. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Does that make all Polish people that travel to the UK nice and hard working? Nicest Brazilian I ever met, in Paris, turned out to be mercenary. Looks can be deceptive.0 -

So only you're allowed to make generalisations?
You said there was no difference between nationalities and I pointed out one to you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This doomsong that we're unproductive, I do wonder if it's just not the Brits seeing bad where perhaps say the French stat collectors would have a different take.
I don't find my experience of say French Supermarkets reveals added productivity on the part of the French.
I do notice the French have a more growth up, practical relationship with H&S culture compared with us. Perhaps this is one way in which we end up adding to costs and diminishing productivity - all too busy with H&S at the cost of sales?
UK tree climbing venues (Go Ape etc) seem more H&S costly compared to those I've experienced in France as but one example.
British firms spend quite a bit of time on things like diversity management and compensation culture, for example battling employees over months regarding compensation. I bet we are the worlds premier time wasters when it comes to such. No wonder productivity might seem less here.
We nearly agree again. That's not over the French but the British. I may or may not agree with your assessment of what may be holding Britain and the British back but whatever it is the Brexit Crisis is not going to change it quickly. If it were to change what do you suggest would help to make those changes. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Yep. I stayed away from it for months and I think I am about to bow out again. I argued passionately for remain but since the result have always been respectful to leavers and their arguments and have debated more with a view to opening my mind to ideas and how we should proceed rather than scoring points for one side against the other, but if we can't even agree that both sides have the interests of their country at heart then its pointless!
One of my big concerns is that moderate people are going to get increasingly turned off to the point of complete political apathy. We may already be there.
I meant to say earlier in the thread. Don't leave. That shows they are winning with the bullying tactics.
We need you to help push back against the shouty faces. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0
