30 days notice, PAC code and port in.

I need your advice please.

I have taken a rolling monthly contract with one of mobile network providers. Decided to leave on 4th of August and asked for PAC code, gave notice over the phone.
Few days later I decided to port in my sons number to this contract so he can make use of that 30 days, lady on a Live Chat informed that notice is still in place.
Tried to use PAC code today and it woulndnt work, I figured out thats because the nuber has changed.
Phoned customer services and asked for new PAC code, been informed that I previous notice is not valid cause I have ported in new number.

I am getting a call back from Manager tomorrow since I do not agree with that.
I have not been informed by live chat that the notice goes invalid.

What are your thoughts on this case?

If you've ported a number in to replace the existing number you've lost that existing number.

The number has to be live on the account for the PAC to work, it was deleted from the account when the new number ported in, unfortunately that old number will now have been returned to its original network and will be in quarantine.

What made you think that you could port another number onto the account and somehow the original number would still be available?

I want to port the number that is currently on contract not the one before.

The point is that he says that the notice I gave before is not valid since I have ported in new number...
    Here is the timeline:

    18 July - contract starts - 1 month rolling
04 August - informed about leaving the network and asked for Pac code - 04 September contract termination date
10 August - requested to port my sons number into the contract, after few days nothing happened
14 August - Live Chat - port been done and been informed my notice is still in place
24 August - I wanted to use old pac code which was invalid due to change of number
Called them and asked for new PAC code and been informed that contract termination will be 24 of September, which I dont agree to beacase I have already given the notice on 04th of August.

    Wow, really.
The PAC code you were given and your old number were linked. Once you ported in your sons number, that PAC code is no longer valid and the old number is gone, along with your notice.

If you now want to port your sons number, then (as you seem to be doing), you will need a new PAC code which is in effect another 30 days notice.
What do you not agree with, that the 30 days notice should still be from the time you requested your original PAC code? Because that is now history.

You terminated your notice period by porting in your sons number. Is that so hard to understand? Don't blame the network.

New PAC code, new 30 days notice and termination when the new PAC code is used. Don't forget to use it this time and not port another number in.

I'd hate to work in customer services for some of these mobile network companies.

Ok, that's easier, you'll just need to give a new 30 day notice and get a new PAC for the current number.

Your old notice and PAC died when you ported the new number in.

    lol

No, why would you even think your old notice and PAC for the old number would still be applicable to porting/terminating the new number?

That's really quite funny that anyone would think that it would work like that... :rotfl:

You see that's the thing I don't agree with.
I have singed up for a contract and gave compulsory 30 day notice to terminate it, optional to this is PAC code, I didn't have to take it.
I don't understand why porting in new number makes notice invalid? I have even asked on live chat after the port of the notice was in place and been informed that it is.

Would ofcom be able to advice on this?

Because when you ported in a new number you reset the account. Your previous number and request to terminate that number were cancelled by your action.

Should you with to terminate or port the new number it's a new process, you have to request the new process to start by giving notice or requesting a new PAC.

Would ofcom be able to advice on this?

    No.

Note the key word "or". Even if you failed to exercise the PAC the contract would continue since requesting one cancels the notice to terminate the contract.

As mobilejunkie says above, requesting a PAC overrides any cancellation request as the presumption is that you want to retain your telephone number which can only be done by requesting AND using the PAC with another supplier (which would end your original contract).

Once you used your sons PAC to to transfer in his number (which would have cancelled his contract) that invalidates your PAC and the contract just carries on as normal.

If you want to now cancel this account you can give 30 days notice which would lose your sons number or you can request a new PAC and move his number elsewhere (which would terminate your contract). Either way your original telephone number is lost forever.
