Having had a look around and also receiving a 'nonsensical' reply from BG as to why they've increased my DD, I'm seriously looking at TogetherEnergy. Don't really understand why they don't appear on any comparison sites but their prices seem cheaper than Avro - they would be my cheapest offer under the MSE Energy club. What happens if an energy supplier fails ? - anyone know?mikeyorkie10 wrote: »I'm in the same boat - anyone used Together Energy? In the Autumn of last year, Ofgem introduced what is known as the Consumer Levy. If a supplier fails, then Ofgem will appoint a Supplier of Last Resort. Part of this process will include the new supplier accepting all consumer credit balances from the failed supplier. The new supplier will be recompensed with a levy placed on all energy consumers.
The logic of this defeats me. We choose a cheap supplier that is running on hope and not a lot of experience; it fails and Granny that has been with British Gas for the past 50 years pays something towards that failure. A more sensible approach would have been for Ofgem to have imposed a form of insurance-based Bond. Yes, it would have led to slightly higher prices for suppliers that are considered a business risk.

I know this may sound stupid to some people but I am going with the cheapest supplier which in my case is Iresa. Yes its a gamble but what is the worst that can happen? I do not intend paying a penny more than I have to.This deal will still cost me £8 a month more.Lets face it it is same Electric and gas coming in pipes and cables to our homes.Being retired I have plenty of time to sort things out if it goes belly up.0

Having been there, I would never return and I am a serial switcher. I had to threaten legal action to get my credit back. Have a read of the reviews on Trustpilot and on Iresa Facebook - they are not all made up.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. One came in today from Energy Helpline. I switched to two separate suppliers 3 months ago and my annual cost is £670 per year. Energyhelpline's Collective Switch comes in at £712 per year.
Reading the e-mail, the offer deadline has been moved to the right which suggests that the consumer take up has fallen short of what they hoped for. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I tried the energy helpline, after filling in my details I get taken to the FAQ page and that's itover 73 but not over the hill.0

You need to be signed up to get these offers. I did so a couple of years ago and the offers keep rolling in.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
To be honest, my days of being a serial switcher, particularly with collective switches, are over for the time being. I know there is some scepticism around longer fixes, but mine has worked out very well. With unit rates of 2.51p per kwh for gas and 10.48p per kwh for electricity and reasonable SC's, they weren't expensive at the time, and the only company with similar rates now, are a company i would never choose, with no Warm Home Discount. Absolutely no comparison. £140 makes a huge difference, if only to cushion any price increase.
The early half - towards the summer of next year could well be a good time for some competitive rates, as they could stabilise or be relatively consistent after any 'price hikes'? Predictions indicate prices could then steadily increase to 2021. A long fix could be a good option, if that becomes the case.
I shall definitely be watching any 'tracking' tariffs for a dip or any competitive long term fixes. They will have to be competitive, though.
The changing face of the energy 'game'?
That's the way i look at it.Fred - Where's your get up and go?
Barney - It just got up and went.
