Norway car hire and credit cards

Hi all. My wife and I are off to Norway. It's our first time abroad and first time on a plane so we're very excited. The trip is part business, my wife is finishing a work related course which has its final part and exam in Norway. A little additional context is that I'm disabled and use a mobility scooter to get about. Norway is an expensive place to go but the biggest issue we appear to be facing is car hire. Due to my disability and the location of the course a car is a must. My scooter means we cannot use a small/compact vehicle. None of this seemed too much of a stretch until I discovered that a credit card in the name of the person hiring the vehicle appears to be essential. For reasons of sorting out debts we do not have a credit card. Is there anyway round this? Does anyone have any suggestions that might help? Any alternatives to car hire? If we could find someone willing to do so is borrowing a car a possibility? Could we be put on someone's insurance in Norway?
