Now that people have gotten used to overtaking on them you often see drivers overtake cyclists on completely blind bends where if a car came the other way, they would have to ram the cyclist off the road.
You won't see me doing that, no matter how much the drivers behind me flash and beep0 -

Whatever. BTW Where's your post criticising Aylesbury Duck's post then?0 -
Yes i misread that it didn't apply to cars travelling less than 10 mph.
But it's worth pointing out that even when overtaking a cyclist you still need to give them plenty of room; so you would be going fully over to the other side of the road anyway.
Well that might be the line some Lycra Taliban infiltrated police forces are trying to push, but that's not what the Highway Code says.0 -

Exactly the highway code says "Rule 163: Give vulnerable road users at least as much space as you would a car"
So giving as much space as a car is the absolute minimum amount you should be doing. So considering that i have seen cyclists suddenly move away from the edge of the road due to potholes or other obstacles then i prefer to give them plenty of room when overtaking.
Just because some cyclists are idiots and go round posting non events online doesn't mean you should give them the absolute minimum room as "punishment".0 -

But if the road is clear enough to overtake, why not avoid the cyclist completely and use the other side of the road? It's one of my pet hates when motorist zoom past at 50mph and choose to do so a couple of feet away when the other lane is completely clear.0 -

I do, but councils around here have this nasty habit of putting pinch points aka pedestrian refuges in the most opportune places to pass. I know this is something even the cycling fraternity dislike.0 -

Fair enough, yes the central traffic islands do add an extra level of excitement to navigating your way through towns.0 -
As Aylesbury Duck said.
Just a little offensive. The events are completely true. The road in question is Gospel End Road just past Baggeridge nature park towards Wombourne.
The behaviour of the van driver and the ignorance you displayed is actually becoming the norm rather than an exception which is why after 30 plus years of long distance cycling I no longer cycle on the roads, it has simply become too dangerous.0 -
