Refusing to travel = Sacking?

Trips come with some jobs even at short notice but that is something you sign up for as part of the interview acceptance process, or through job development.
If the deal was occasional limited travel I would be expecting incentives to go above and beyond and not nonsense like you can't have your family come and stay with you.
It;s all perception isn't it. I focussed on the opportunity not the downside. It got me and my manager massive kudos, and he looked after me as a result
To me, for a short trip like a week, it's nonsense to expect the whole family to tag along at company expense. Plus additional risk that it's a huge distraction and the focus on the job is blurred. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

I don't recall anyone suggesting the company pay for them to tag along.0 -

The OP repeatedly says 'they won't let me take the wife and baby'.
If he wasn't expecting the employer to pay why would he even need to ask?The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Can they consider renting an apartment instead of a hotel so in reality you live as a family whilst working away? I am guessing the cost will be much the same an a happy employee is a more productive one.
The 3 hr commute will not work, just result in poor quality of work and a potential for accidents.
OP I do think that you are being a bit feeble and doing your daughter no favours in teaching her these behaviours. She will become overdependant and needy instead of a strong individual.0 -

Sometimes people assume too much.
They book double rooms, the hotel the company uses hasn't even got a single room as far as the guys have mentioned. In other words I didn't want or expect them to pay anything extra.
They're not paying any extra for anything. In fact it was a mistake on my part mentioning it at all, firstly to my company and then to here.0 -

They didn't have to consider anything really. A double room is what they book for everyone. They were planning on booking one for me too.
As for how we raise our baby, that doesn't concern you one bit. Thank you very much.0 -
Meeting was held with the IT Director about the issue. He acknowledged it was a mess that could be avoided. He said that if I want to travel with my family, by all means he's ok with it provided it doesn't stretch the company and using an already booked room harms no one. He also mentioned at the end, that he is also a family man and remembers when he was often and frequently away from his young family. Now that they're older it's easier.
I'm glad he is in the position that he is, I feel more comfortable now in this role and I feel like we can all give it a serious crack.0 -

Why mention it then?
Obviously with your attitude if it is like this in a new job when you should be keen to impress an employer you will go far.0 -

I don't think I'm the first person in the world who's change jobs but questioned if it's the right move. I think if I regret a move, which I'm not saying I do, I won't be the first person either.
I came here for advice on whether I would be fired/disciplined for refusing to travel under those circumstances. I didn't come here to get told how to raise my baby.0
