Energy Efficient Dishwasher

Hello!

I'm trying to save where I can because my household bills are becoming incredibly expensive.

Does anyone know an energy efficient dishwasher that I could purchase, preferably in the West Midlands?

Thanks!

Frank

    Welcome to the forum.

https://www.sust-it.net/energy-saving.php?id=19 lists all dishwashers. It is often a compromise between initial cost to buy and running cost.

Don't forget that if you have metered water, the cost of water used can exceed the cost of electricity.

I was intrigued by the OP's post and looked at Cardew's sust-it website and have come to this conclusion

A £299 dishwasher could cost you 15p a wash and a £1350 dishwasher could be as cheap as 8p a wash thus saving you around 7p a go. Assuming that you used it once a day you'd save around £25 a year on your leccy bill (saving is only £12.5o if you use it every other day) so by spending £1050 extra you would break even after about 15000 loads = about 42 years (or 84 years if you only use it every other day)

There's probably a happy medium but your best bet is to make sure you run it with full loads so you get maximum efficiency out of which ever one you buy

It is also worth doing the maths to see if getting Economy 7 and running the dishwasher (and other things) at night would produce a further saving... if you have E7 already it shouldn't need thinking about (other than considering the safety of running appliances when you are sleeping perhaps).

Some dishwashers come with a delay timer, which is a particularly useful feature if you have, or are considering switching to, an E7 supply.

  • Thanks, everyone, those points are great!

I have been doing a bit of digging myself, and alongside that link that Cardew shared from Sust-It (fantastic website by the way!), I think I found my happy medium!

I came across one that Sust-It and I think that even switching to Economy 7 as well will save even more money - the forum seems to think I'm spamming, so I can't get your opinions on it, so annoying!

Do you guys know of any other ways to save even more?

Switching to E7 just to run your dishwasher overnight and save a bit on leccy is frankly insane. By all means switch to E7 if you can run your hot water (immersion heater) and heating (night storage heaters) on it, as that will produce worthwhile savings. But saving a bit on white goods by running them at night would be wiped out by the much higher cost of all the units you will still need to use on peak rate.
Very few people without immersion heaters and NSH's can make E7 cheaper than single rate-though there are exceptions.

  • I mean that makes a lot of sense, so I think it now comes down to a cosmetic issue doesn't it

You can get free dishwashers in the East Midlands, using a method called 'doing the dishes with your own hands'.

We had an A+ rated dishwasher for a while.

It didn't actually save any money as you had to put everything through it twice to get it clean.

It also took forever to complete the most economic wash!

When I bought our new one I deliberately looked for inefficient models.
  • Really? Is that the same for most A rated dishwashers?
