Are T-mobile taking me for a ride?
Hi guys,
I want to switch to PAYG on T - My contract ended last week, so i rang them last night to tell them i want to switch to PAYG. (I'm moving abroad in a few months so it's not worth starting a new contract but haven't told them that)
they said that i have to give 30days notice to end my contract, and I can't keep my number - which i thought is rather odd??? i said i'd stay connected for now to my existing contract and think about it.
so, from this - 2 questions?
how come i can go on to easymobile and keep the same number if T can't even let me keep the same one???
do i really need to give 30 days notice to leave a contract that was 12 months and has now expired (i know i should probably check the small print myself on this 1)???
thanks

30 days notice is right and pretty standard, confused on the PAYG thing, didn't think that would be a problem, done it myself in the past but I was on Voda then2p off is still 2p off!0

There's always a notice period. The contract isn't fixed at 12 months but has a minimum of 12 months. I'm surprised at what you said about the number if you convert though. I did the same with Orange and it was possible to keep or change the number. Perhaps you could ask again in case someone misunderstood your questions.0

Providing you are outside your minimum term contract (12 or 18months) then just ask for your PAC code. When you get the PAC code go out and buy a cheap payg sim card (t-mobile or any other network) and ask which ever network you choose to port over your contract number to this new payg sim.
When you ask for your PAC code and use your PAC code that gives t-mobile notice that you are ending your contract. T-mobile can not stop you from asking for your PAC code (unless you are still within your minimum term) but they can charge you a fee for issuing the PAC code but in my experience the main networks don't charge for issuing PAC codes unless still within a minimum term contract.
For more info on PAC code, read the pdf (acrobat format) document here from OfCOM's website.0 -
I done it with two of my tmobile numbers so that is rubbish!
Ask to speak to a team leader and ask why they have changed there procedure. If you want, you can pm me and i will give you my number to use as an example0 -
wow - thanks for the speedy replies
I'll give them my notice to cancel.
OK - i've thought of something else...I'll ask here as you guys seem to know your stuff......
Is it possible to unlock a motorola v300 to use another network (I'm thinking about easymobile) on PAYG, or will i need a new phone if i switch.
cheers

It is possible to unlock a motorola v300 but i'm afraid it can only be done via a cable. Therefore, you can take the phone to most small mobile shops (in any markets, etc) and if they have the facilities to unlock then they'll do this for about £5 - £10 (obviously depending on what they want to charge).the_canty wrote:..Is it possible to unlock a motorola v300 to use another network (I'm thinking about easymobile) on PAYG, or will i need a new phone if i switch....
If the moto v300 is already on t-mobile then you should be ok to put in the easymobile simcard without having to unlock it as easymobile (inc carphonewarehouse's fresh & virgin mobile) use the t-mobile network to carry their calls anyhow.0
