I'm in the process of booking a hire car in Spain & have used several comparison sites.
My search also showed US sites & out of curiosity went through the process of booking a car & found using a US they are much cheaper.
As a UK resident will I be allowed to book a car using a US site?
It also shows as a UK citizen we are ripped off!

  • It depends what's included and what's not included.

As PW says it does depend on what's included. I understand that in the US it is the norm to have rental car insurance cover included with both your private car insurance and/or as part of a credit card package, which makes the US sites appear cheaper as there is less or no insurance cover included, maybe just legal requirement cover, 3rd party or similar.

As above, US car hire usually included no or only the very basic insurance and you're likely to have to buy more when you collect the car or arrange your own policy before you travel.

So, no, it's not that the UK is a rip off, it's that everything you need is included in the quoted price, so no nasty surprises when you collect the car.

  • I've never been ripped off but then I don't use a middleman. Just find a reputable local company and book direct. Obviously avoid Goldcar and Orlando.
