I was told I could get a Macbook pro through work.
I like to use two screens at work, but I was told a guy in IT that Mackbook Pro isnt really designed to be used with more than one screen.
In my line of work having two screens is the way to work...Is it really the case that MB Pro cant use two monitors?

FWIW, my colleague next door has three screens running-off his Macbook Pro and for my Mac, two screens run perfectly well with one off the thunderbolt port via a little adaptor0
-
Are they Apple branded screens? I was told you can achieve it via an apple screen haha. Didnt sound right!0

Nope, both of us use scavenged PC monitors as our secondary screens - I'm using a Thunderbolt multi adaptor which outputs to HDMI/DVI/VGA and it works pretty much perfectly on DVI or HDMI. Never used the VGA though.0

This is the one I was looking at but with 16GB RAM

Is it a question of not enough ports he was maybe meaning? I want to gather all the info before I go back and say it can be done!0 -
Does anyone else in your office us Macs? Could be a case of your IT guy finding a reason relevant to you why you shouldn't get one, so that he doesn't then have to support it...0

Do you mean two monitors in addition / instead of the MacBook's own screen? Or, do you mean one extra monitor?
Without knowing the specific model I cannot say for certain but in the former case he may be correct.
In the latter case then I would be amazed if he is right. As far as I know every MacBook has been able to support an external monitor to either extend or duplicate the built in display as you choose.0 -

He hasn't a clue. But we won't have much of a clue until you tell us WHICH Macbook pro you have. You might have HDMI, Thunderbird, mini displayport etc, on it, then you need to know the connections available on the monitor too.Are they Apple branded screens? You're being fed complete rubbish. This is the one I was looking at but with 16GB RAM
That's better. You can run the internal screen plus at least TWO more screens AFAIK. Stick that to your IT guy! You need to use the Thunderbird output of the Macbook Pro, and you need to tell us what the monitor is before we can help you with the cable or adaptor to use...0 -

It would require a USB-C dongle to whatever connection your screen has... So if your monitor took a DVI connection, you would get a USB-C to DVI cable from Apple. - https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MJ1K2ZM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter?fnode=76cc9e817a7105c7388ab4ad89e209ada86d44b6a6b4f64d1ad943962810c6abfb071b0f4652bc2e7d1b5b33c0f7bb332218e589a9957e4cfe65a0ad9990515a655f27a14f12be3a89369818d5ba82abdd79766e8cafb0ecbb2042eb17f03467
In terms of connections, the newer MBP's have USB-C only, so a dongle would be required to what ever you require i.e. USB-C to USB etc... https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MJ1M2ZM/A/usb-c-to-usb-adapter?fnode=76cc9e817a7105c7388ab4ad89e209ada86d44b6a6b4f64d1ad943962810c6abfb071b0f4652bc2e7d1b5b33c0f7bb332218e589a9957e4cfe65a0ad9990515a655f27a14f12be3a89369818d5ba82abdd79766e8cafb0ecbb2042eb17f03467
Something simple like an ethernet port would also require a dongle..
There are boxes out there which will give you the standard connections via one usb-c (https://us.macally.com/products/uc3hub3gbc), IT man may not want the MBP's on the books as he may not know much about how they work/integrate with the systems in-place!0 -
One monitor I have has a cream/white plug with two square sets of pins - 3x3 and a horizontal line...
The other looks a bit like a HDMI lead, but it has a rounded edge on one side. that seems to be an adapter for another of the cream/white plug.0
