clutch disk replacement

the seller has told me that he has had the clutch disk replaced 2 years ago. should I avoid buying this car ? audi a3, petrol

I bought a private Aygo recently for my daughter. Was delighted to see a main dealer invoice for a new clutch. A good thing surely?

If a second hand car has had anything replaced, walk away. You want everything original. Parts that have been replaced affect the provenance and value of the car.

Yes you don't want any of that new oil and filters to rob the car of value.

Yes, make sure it's still got the original oil in it after 100k, guaranteed for nothing to go wrong.

Clutches wear out, if it's been replaced then you should be good for a while yet.

Does it function OK? If so no reason I can see to worry.

Come on, guys, you're missing the really important stuff. Original tyres add so much interest to a barn-find classic that it'd be madness to even think about changing them!

On a more serious note, the Op might be wise to have reservations depending on more info (isn't it always?)

If this car is, say, a 10 year old 100k runabout then new clutch is a good thing.

If, on the other hand, it's a 4 or 5 year old with 40k miles and needed a clutch in its first 2 or 3 years before hitting 20k miles then there may be questions over how it was driven during its earlier days!

I had this exact conversation with somebody on FB the other day. He was proud of the original 1986 tyres on his car. When I pointed out how bloody dangerous that was, not something to shout about, he got all huffy and deleted the post...

To be fair, we did keep the original, unused, 1966 spare that our Daf 32 came with about 8 years back for shows, but no way we would have fitted it to the car!
