I've still not been able to contact the neighbour, yet.

The spam post was about cheap phone calls and has been deleted.

Why don't you all get yours changed at the same time... should be able to get a good discount.

Can't, mine are only a year old and other people have renewed their windows with brown ones.

    Thanks sandieb - I didn't realise :D

Most of us are busy with a few issues in life...
i.e job, family and children , career progression or what you would want to be in life.

If you have so much time on your hands to bother about something as absolutely trivial as the colour of your neighbours windows then I think you would either need to increase your focus with anything specific , i would start with the above and stop meddling with your neighbours right to choice as an individual..

    There's a combination of words I never thought I'd see! :p

Seriously, if you don't like it that much, talk to them and offer to pay for part of the cost yourself. Otherwise I doubt there's much you can do unless it's a listed building.

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

The above is a very simplistic view. With individual rights come responsibilities to others. If anything, the failure to recognise this is what is really wrong with this country. (Personally, I don't think this country is that bad).

The neighbour's individual rights aren't the only issue. When you choose to buy or rent a flat in a communal block your individual rights are balanced against those of the other owners and tenants. That's why the lease will have all sorts of conditions in it about what you can and can't do in the property and there will be probably be a management committee to enforce these as the residents see fit.

Not my cup of tea either, but if the neigbour doesn't like the hassles of living in a communal block they should buy a freehold house.

Even then, if its in a conservation area, like these flats, they will have a duty to maintain the character of the area, and will still need planning permission.

If everyone on the planet could be trusted not to be selfish/ill-informed/tasteless/anti-social etc. at all times, then I agree, we probably wouldn't need all these pesky interfering rules.

And if the block no longer looks attractive and the value of your property is less by 10k when you want to move you will just grin and say...oh well I was too busy at the time to sort this so I will just work another 1,000 hours of overtime to cover the loss....
    I think....

    Hiya all

Thanks for all yoru suggestions, feedback and comments though some were not as politely put as others!

I've phoned my neighbour and she's informed me that 2 other neighbours have put the same request in. So I'm not going to formally complain, can't against all of those lot! But apparently the planning office wouldn't let the block guttering be replaced with white guttering coz it will look out of place so they might not be allowed white windows anyway.

BTW....I am very busy in my life

Good for you MushyPeas. Neighbour negotiations can be a problem especially when you are busy!
