Moral dilema: neighbour wants pvc windows...I want to object

I have a bit of a moral dilema and I'd be interested to see what other people thought. I live in a block of flats where all the window frames are wooden, so they are brown. A planning letter was sent to me this week saying my neighbour downstairs has requested to have white pvc windows installed.
I really don't want this to happen as it will spoil the look for the whole block, but I understand that if I object it will a) cause bad feeling, b) cost my neighbour more money for wooden or brown pvc frames and c) she's been helpful letting me use her bins for rubbish.
I'm not sure how to respond, what would you do?
Cheers for your input!

Why are planning involved? If the place is listed I can't see them getting permission. I would like more details of the block, please, size, age, style, that sort of stuff.
What's wrong with brown PVCu windows anyway? :eek:A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0 -
Just an 80s block of flats, but quite nice looking. The building is in a costal town, so maybe that's why planning permission is needed?
It's the white aspect I don't like, it will look horrible. But brown pvc is cool, it will all blend in then. But I know it costs more money.Previous debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03

I think it is a fair point to ask for them to be brown PVC. Have you spoken to any of the others about it? There is no point in objecting though if it will not apply to the whole block as before long someone will put in the white ones other wise. It probably wouldn't cost much more for the brown it would be well worth it and I wouldn't think your neighbour would be put out. Well she shouldn't be!

Hi Mushy
I'm amazed at the responses you are getting!!! Worrying that people don't seem to care. I think you have a really valid point and are right to object before the look of the building is already spoilt. Really all your neighbours should care as the value of the property will go down once it starts looking mish mash. Then people will start caring less about other stuff too. Have you looked on your deeds? Is their a management committee? My parents were in a similar situation where they lived as the wooden windows needed replacing and they all agreed on White PVC in that instance.
Hope you have luck tomorrow and your neighbour doesn't agree with the other comments on this thread.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
What if a neighbour wanted to paint their wooden windows white? Why would (decent) upvc windows be any worse than this?
I wouldn't worry, I doubt they will put in horrible windows, it would be rather counter-productive for the value of their property!Free is my favourite price!0 -
