Disability parking badge

Can someone advise how to get a disability parking badge.
Hubby has arthritus in both knees and struggles to bend knees so struggles to stand or sit with ease but ok once he gets going.

He ok generally and can go about doing day to day activities and go work but in pain.
The only problem is getting in and out the car at car parks. He has to have door wide open to sit inside and then swivel himself into the seat. It would make life easier if he could park in disabled bays as allows you to open door wide to allow him to get in and out. Normal car parking means he tries to find spot with empty spaces...ok with empty car park but impossible at peak times....and then has to find spot with vegetation next to it or end space so he can open door wide.

I looked into applying few months back and was put off as you have to apply for some sort of benefit and provide all sorts of medical history. Is there a way to just get the blue badge direct? Can i go through gp as he has had few operations on his knees over the years?

The only benefits we get are child benefit.

Thanks

    Complete this link:

    https://bluebadge.direct.gov.uk/directgovapply.html

Do not be put off by the eligibility criteria. Tick 'none of these' and the next page will show further eligibility - some of which may need the support of a doctor's letter.

Without automatically qualifying it depends on the criteria of your local council. Mostly though an assessment would be needed to see exactly how far he can walk. You can apply online or ring your local council and they'll send you an application form. It's not as easy to get a blue badge now unless you automatically qualify.

    Look on your council's website.

You can apply even if you don't claim health related benefits but will probably be asked to go for an assessment.
  • The first page didnt apply, the 2nd page did not apply either.....got message below

The applicant is unlikely to be eligible to receive a Blue Badge because the information you have provided indicates that they are unlikely to meet the qualifying criteria. Their local authority may be able to provide information about other services and support that they may be able to access to help with their mobility.

Look on your local councils website or contact them Monday.

When i followed the link about i ticked the first box at the bottom (none of above apply) the 2nd page i ticked the box that said this "I am over the age of two and have a permanent and substantial disability which means that I have very considerable difficulty in walking" it then took my to a page that said you "may" qualify and need to attend a mobility assessment. Underneath this it gave me an option to apply online for the badge. Like i said all councils are different and have different criteria.

    Did you get this option?

I am over the age of two and have a permanent and substantial disability which means that I have very considerable difficulty in walking

Based on what you have said then your OH may well fit into this descriptor.

    No harm in trying.

The bits in bold may be your problem - BBs are usually given out because people have problems walking rather than just getting in and out of a vehicle.
