Moving a toilet 10cm to the right...

Hi All - hope someone can help! I'm having an enforced layoff from work, and using the chance to sort out some diy. Most of its basic stuff, but one job is beyond my knowledge. Basically, I have a bathroom unit that won't fit where I want it, I need to create around 10cm by moving our toilet to the right. It doesn't seem difficult in theory:
- turn off the water
- empty the loo
- unscrew the bolts that are holding it in place
- pull it forward and disconnect soil pipe
- mop up
- go to screwfix and buy a flexible soil pipe
- realise I've bought the wrong pipe because it doesn't fit, go back to buy a new one (repeat several times)
- finally find the right part and get it connected up
- site the toilet, rebolt and make good.
- realise it's leaking, take it all apart and tighten everything
Jokes aside, that doesn't seem insurmountable, am I missing anything?

Yes, you'll probably need to move or extend the cold water feed into the cistern and the overflow.
If the cistern is a close-coupled one you might have a leak when you move it and have to cut the bolts off because they go rusty, and have to go back to screwfix to get a fitting kit!
Depending on the flooring, you might have trouble disguising the hole that the pan was fixed through.
It can be a stressful job if you don't have another loo in the house...The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Also be aware that if it is an old toilet it may be very difficult to find a flexible soil pipe that will fit properly. We were peeing in a bucket for about two weeks before we got a solution that fitted.
This was with using every single decent plumbing place in the area with all the great guys who work in such places ( and many customers) scratching heads and musing on possible solutions.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Personally, I would see if I could get my money back on the bathroom unit...No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

+1 or even get a carpenter to take 10cm off the cabinet carcass0

Is there enough room for a 10cm dogleg offset between the fixed part of the outlet and the pan outlet.0

That is the real issue! I moved mine 10 cm forward to insulate the wall and that was relatively straightforward, but moving it to the side would have meant a slight offset on the pipe and that could have been tricky.0 -
Thanks everyone. I decided not to do it in the end... i.e. been told not to do it by the missus! Something about not wanting to "sit" so close to a cupboard...0
