Hi I was supposed to be travelling with American Airlines going from Orlando-Philadelphia-Manchester.

We've been rerouted to Orlanod-Gatwick-Heathrow-Manchester

As I have to make my way across from Gatwick to Heathrow am I entitled to compensation from the airline?

Also what is the beat way to get to Heathrow with six travelling?

EU261 for non-EU airlines is only applicable for flights departing the EU.
Have you asked AA if they will reimburse you for the connection?

As they have rerouted you, why can't you ask them to arrange a flight from Gatwick to Manchester missing out Heathrow?

there are no airlines that operate from Gatwick to Manchester (would involve going via Dublin)

Thanks for the responses. I ended up getting a cab which cost £88. The.only other option was to stay another night in Orlando which would mean forking out for two hotel rooms or spending a day in the.airport.

My flight at Philadelphia only had a 90 min stop over and the flight was 2 hours delayed.

I suspected I wouldn't have any recompense but hoped as the destination was an EU country we might have got something.

You may want to check but my understanding is EU261 applies to EU and non EU operators landing in an EU country. Provided your arrival at your original destination was delayed by 3hrs or more and the delay was not due to exceptional circumstances such as weather ie the delay was in the operators control you have a valid claim. You also have I think 6yrs to claim. Over 3hrs delay gets to 300 euros per person & over 6 hrs gets you 600 euros per person. There is some advise on how to claim on this site somewhere.

this is incorrect. EU261 on non-EU operators only applies for flights departing (not arriving) EU. As has been stated in this thread already, EU261 does not apply on an AA flight departing the US
