Hi guys
Apologies for supremely stupid question, but how do I save a "screen grab/screen print" in Windows 7?
I'm trying to save a seating plan for a complaint and I can't work out how to do it. Windows help is trying to send me down some "Open paint" route but I'm sure it used to be something simple like Ctrl + Prnt Scr.
Bear with me - I'm old...

PrtScn will take a snapshot of the current desktop (i.e. what is showing on all monitors). Alt + PrtScn will take a snapshot of the active window.
Once you done one of the above, open you application of choice (can be Paint), create a new file (or open an existing one), then press Ctrl + V to paste it into the file.0 -
I find its rare I need the whole screen/window, and so find the "Snipping tool" very handy
Its in the Accessories program group0 -
Snipping tool all the way ..
Most useful tool in windows IMHO0 -
Indeed but Alt & PrtScr can be explained over the phone & then you get the error message emailed (with luck).
Much depends on where the screengrab is to go & by whom it is being taken...!0 -
Or failing everything else, maybe the camera of your mobile phone will do it.0

snipping tool is in my top ten apps"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Forgot about the Snipping Tool ... and I use it a lot too (got a shortcut on my Taskbar)!0

Snipping tool is great, but remember that it takes an image, not a document copy. By default, it usually saves to Libraries -- Pictures -- My Pictures.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Snipping tool is ok, but for 'power screenshot users' you want something like greenshot http://getgreenshot.org/0

<Windows key>+<PrintScreen> is one of the reasons to upgrade from Windows 7 - one keyboard shortcut automatically saves a screenshot in a Screenshots folder.
But sadly only available in Windows 8 and later.0
