Firefox v55.0 64-bit problems with update

Last night I upgraded to Firefox v55.0 (64-bit) on my Windows 7 PC. I reinstalled Windows about a week or two ago, so it's a fairly clean system.
This morning, I went to Help/About, and it tells me to click the button to restart Firefox to update to v55.0. Clicking this button restarts Firefox, but the Help/About page still says to click to button to restart/update.
Additionally, my bookmarks bar is missing in all my browser profiles. And Firefox freezes briefly and takes an age to load any web pages. And my add-ons don't seem to be working (e.g. I have UBlock Origin to block adverts, but now see them on YouTube, etc.).
I have created a new, clean browser profile, but the bookmarks bar is still blank. I tried creating a bookmark (not on the bookmarks bar), but it doesn't appear in the bookmarks list.
Is anyone else having these problems?

I am using Win 7 but the latest up to date Firefox is showing as 54.0.1 on 64 bit.
I also use Ublock Origin.
Firefox will not update to 55.0 for me.
I have no problems at all.........
Not much help I am afraid
P.S
Any use...........

Thanks. I wonder if something fundamental has changed in FF 55.0...?
I'm just about to downgrade to 54.x, but it looks I'm going to have to recreate all my user profiles. :-/By default, different versions of Firefox will use the same user profile data. Installing an older version of Firefox after using Firefox version 55 or above can cause problems such as error messages, breakage in portions of Firefox and issues with some websites. You should either create a new profile or else refresh Firefox after installing the older version.

I've got 55.0 and everything is working fine. I have read that some are having a few problems with add-ons, but nothing like the problems you are having.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

It will break a lot of plugins (unless they get rewritten) though. I think this is already starting to be flagged up and I guess that might be why some don't behave as expected even now.0 -
Cheers all for your comments.I've got 55.0 and everything is working fine. I have read that some are having a few problems with add-ons, but nothing like the problems you are having.
Yeah. My installation is virtually unusable. The loading delays are horrific. I'm used to the odd hiccup in Firefox, but nothing like this.
I uninstalled/reinstalled FF 55.0 and used a clean profile, but had the same problem.
I reinstalled v54.1 and Firefox is working perfectly.
The only security software I'm running is MalwareBytes Premium. And, as I say, I only reinstalled Windows a week or two ago.
No malware found with MalwareBytes or adwCleaner.

I no longer use Firefox, I switched to the similar Waterfox (64 bit) and have found it completely stable.
It may be useful to read up on it first.
It can/will use your Firefox profile.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Thanks. I might have a look if I can't get Firefox working.
Strangely, when I go to Help/About, Firefox tells me that v54.0.1 is up-to-date.0 -
I gave this a try on my (Windows 10) laptop last night ... I opened FF (not used it for ages), looked at Help | About and it said I have v47.something and that it was up to date!0

They are not far away from version 57 which will break many old add-ons. Anyone who relies on old ones should make sure auto updates are switched off. No doubt some will start to fail before the final release of 57.0.
If you look at your list of add-ons they will have a new label, either 'Compatible' or 'Legacy'. Click on the label and it will take you to a page explaining the issue.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
