Cheque cashed for incorrect amount

I reckon that it was a data entry error where the typist didn't press on the fullstop /point key for long enough to print it.
Entering the word 'hundred' (no gap between 'fifteen' and 'pounds') and altering a decimal point would be rather obvious and should be initialled.
I could be wrong, but I would have thought that pretty much all cheque processing is automated and I don't see a typist involved at any stage.
The words and the figures not agreeing on the cheque should have been reason enough for the cheque to have been returned unpaid by the issuing bank.0 -
If the OP didn't fill in the words section, or wrote just "fifteen", that could be a risk ; but I think in any case most people would write "one thousand five hundred" rather than "fifteen hundred". And put a line through the rest of the box.0

Thanks for all the responses, sorry i havent updated sooner.
In the end i requested a copy of the cheque from my bank, but was told this could take 2 weeks to arrive (it still hasnt done so up to now)
But the company that took the money seemed to be able to do this alot quicker, and the money has been repaid in full. So no harm done in the end!0 -
