Flower.jpg

Came across this flower on my travels today - it looks like a type of sunflower though it's not as tall as the usual ones.

The flower appears from a 'cocoon' of fuzzy stuff like a cocoa bean, and the fuzzy stuff then folds back down underneath the flower - see bottom left flower.

Anyone out there know what this is please?

Is that not the Latin name for the species Sunflower?

I can't find anything about this particular one.

Inula? There are several possibilities within this species.

Or maybe Telekia speciosa? But I think that might be too large to be it.

    It's a good photo.

Yes, it is the Latin name for sunflower, but there are lots of different varieties, not just the common one. Many of them are perennials.

Yes, I know that, which is why I'm trying to find out the particular variety! I recognised it as a sunflower immediately.

Great call - think it could be Inula ensifolia.

Photo taken on my iPhone, thanks.

I think the leaves are too wide and not shiny enough for it to be that particular cultivar, but it it's one of them.

Sorry, no time to look further as I'm digging yet another hole this afternoon....... :(

Looks even more perfect - many thanks. This is a splendid flower which I really want to have in my garden.

Now to chase it down to a supplier.
