Id do a fresh install rather than update from an old version ..
We have 100+ machines running W10 now and they all work perfectly, havent had one single problem with updates in the manner you describe , and i now feel happy to allow the team to do a full transition ..
Can i ask, is it the home version that you are seeing this on ?
Just wondering if this makes a difference

Getting boring now.
Another windows 10 laptop arriving in, stuck in what seems to be an infinite loop trying to install some infernal update.
The Microsoft Windows 10 update system is a remarkably incompetent piece of work, even by Microsoft's recent standards.
The fix is easy, first boot in safe mode, then stop the auto update service by running the following from the command prompt:
net stop wuauserv
Navigate to the Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and delete the contents.
From the command prompt run:
net start wuauserv
Boot the PC as normal and Windows update should work again.
The reason for running the commands in safe mode, is that Windows update tends to auto start, using safe mode stops that happening. Also, I don't think Windows will let you just delete the contents when running normally.

And what about the software they have which doesn't run and for which there is no alternative?
You found a Linux Mint install DVD, managed to get it on a PC and you think it is the second coming of Christ, I get it. However it isn't suitable for everyone. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I used to think XP then the last version of Vista were good, then upgraded to W10 and had lots of problems, but now I'm used to it and have no problems for 4 months I'm actually pleased with it. My latest update was last night: 2017-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4034674) and so far so good no probs. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Hi
Well I have been trying to figure out why
netsh wlan show drivers
works and
netsh lan show drivers
doesn't.
It aint there, it's not a valid command.
So using driverquery and csv ing the output of 349 drivers I am amazed anything works.
Earliest Driver 10/01/1970 19:29:41 UK time
Latest Driver 19/09/2105 17:47:11 UK time
ERR when was Microsoft formed?
So the last one has got about 88 years before it is obsolete.
Why do I need...
fdc, flpydisk and sfloppy floppy disk drivers?
PS2 keyboard, parport, serial port and serial mouse drivers?
Christ knows what other crap there is.
AANnd I thought I removed xbox, but xboxgip
(Xbox Game Input Protocol Driver) is installed.
So when it does updates what date sequence does it use?
It obviously is hanging waiting for the October 2105 date to roll round, well we will probably all be dead before that update finishes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
