Getting boring now.
Another windows 10 laptop arriving in, stuck in what seems to be an infinite loop trying to install some infernal update.
The Microsoft Windows 10 update system is a remarkably incompetent piece of work, even by Microsoft's recent standards.
And the sheer randomness of these updates.
Genuinely, there must be many, many working hours lost by Windows 10 users.

You have enough free space?
Start - type in Search box -> COMMAND find at top Right Click on it - RUN AS ADMIN
net stop wuauserv
Then in Start - Computer or Windows Explorer go to "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download"
and DELETE the contents.
Then go back to Command prompt
net start wuauserv
The upgrade should eventually go ahead.
This could be worth a look?

I've been using Windows 10 since release and have it on three machines at home, my desktop / development machine at work and on multiple VMs across two ESXi servers and as yet no update problems.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

Not sure why this is relevant, but here you are:
Office desktop / dev machine : 9h / day, Mon-Fri
office VM no 1 : 24/7
office VM no 2 : only started when needed
Home main / gaming desktop :6-7h, more at weekends
Home dev machine : varies a lot
Home laptop : not much, only when out and about and occasional connections to the home network for transfering data
Home VM : rarely
Does that help?Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
In my experience Windows10 likes being left on; I see a number of people checking their email then closing the lid or switching off; for 5 mins a day; leaving on a night a week is a good idea.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

Mines on most of the time and W10 is still rubbish, I bought my laptop a couple of months before W10 was launched and it worked perfectly well until I unfortunately updated to W10, the machine has been absolute crap since.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
my thanks on the above post is partly in agreement with the content, and partly for the poster's signature - couldn't agree more......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
