Word & Excel "not responding"

My husband and myself share a computer both with different log-ins. I can not open my word or excel documents getting ' not responding' message however my husband has no issue with his account. How can I fix this?

Can you open word or excel (just the programs - without opening any particular doc)?

If this is a new thing and it was OK a day or two ago, roll back to a restore point before then.

Standard thing we do for that in work is delete the user's profile and create a new one.

Open regedit and delete (or rename) the office key located at

    HKCU\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE

When you nect open office it should recreate the key and its contents and you will have a new office profile

Yes but it takes ages to open and then when I try to access a document its not responsive.

If only I understood any of the above. I'm not computer literate I'm afraid.

How about hubby - is he computer literate? If yes, get him to try the suggestions. :)

Otherwise entice a child off the street with the promise of sweets ... they'll fix it in no time. :D

before you go deleteing the profile, try tracking down a file called normal.dot and if it is above a few kbs in size delete it.
it is a simple plain template for other files and will be recreated next time you start word.
