Basic mobile phone PAYG
I want to get my OH a replacement phone and he would prefer another Nokia because they stay charged for such a long time.
It is just used occasionally for texts and the odd phone call.
I am trying to find something that he can just slot his existing sim card into and it will work.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks.

He was talking today about liking the relaunched Nokia 3310.
I have had a look but they all seem to be tied in to the various networks.
Do you know if these are available on PAYG and sim free?
Also, would his old sim card (and I am talking old going back over 10 years) actually slot straight into the new Nokia 3310 or have they changed the size of sim cards over the years?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Sim free Nokia 3310 available at Argos for £50, or Carphone Warehouse for £60.
At over 10 years old in a presumably basic phone, his old sim card is likely to be a standard sim, this phone uses a micro sim so will either need cut down to size or replaced with a new one.0 -
Your provider will supply a correctly sized SIM on request, it's not a big deal.No free lunch, and no free laptop

1800........ number is a free phone number in Ireland
It can only be accessed from Ireland
Dial +353 1 664 6100 the international access number alternative
(+ is 00)
If you install 'RINGO international caller' on your mobile you can dial it free(Ireland landlines) .............just uses your UK allowance...........it dials a UK 03 number
BUT you need a smart phone to do this not a basic Nokia!

Thanks for the information. I never really understand with mobile phones - is it the actual phone that is locked to a network or the sim card (sorry, I am a dinosaur:o)?
I have seen this Nokia 3310 and read all of the information on the page, but cannot tell if it is locked into a certain network and whether it comes with a new sim card? I hope it comes back into stock soon.
Please, would you mind having a quick look?

A SIM card is provided by a particular network, and will only work on that network, with the phone number allocated by them.
A phone handset can be locked to a particular network, and they often are if provided by that network and include a SIM. If the handset is sold 'SIM-free' it is usually 'unlocked' and will work on any network. A locked handset can usually be unlocked, with varying degrees of ease and cost.
The Nokia 3310 on your John Lewis link does not have any mention of a network so is presumably unlocked. It takes a mini-SIM of the size you probably already have (micro-SIM and nano-SIM are smaller). For £50 it's not particularly good value and there are other modern basic Nokia phones available for less. You can search for the thread here about the new 3310 to see comments.Evolution, not revolution0
