Petplan - what to claim for?

Options
Apologies for my ignorance but I'm new to pet insurance and claiming on insurance in general.

Had to pay £172 for an emergency vet appointment for our cat and they seemed to imply that we can claim back. I don't know what the excess is, whether it will increase next year's premium, is there a general minimum to claim etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The excess will be stated in your policy you can get the difference back . It will put next years price up .

My dogs renewal has just come through from petplan and its gone up £60 without a claim !

Oh dear, tough decision then. By the time I've paid the £70 ish excess I'll only be getting circa £100 so do wonder how much difference this will make to future premiums. May be worth taking the hit now.

Petplan are one of the few companies who do NOT put up the annual premium if you make a claim.

Many people have confirmed that two dogs same breed and age , one with many claims and the other with none but the premiums are the same for both dogs.

I recently claimed £1500 for a dog and premium did not go up at renewal (mind you, it rocketed when she turned into a "senior"!)

I have two Burmese kittens with them and we pay £35 in total per month. However because Zac was stung by some insect and we took him to the vet before we had PetPlan insurance they have noted this as a pre condition that if he gets any skin problem for the next 24 months this will not be covered. After that time and provided they get a report from the vet there has been no reoccurrence they the pre condition will be dropped.

I can confirm that too. We have 2 older cats insured with Petplan, one of them has a long term health condition and averages around £1500 of vets bills per year, the other hasn't had to have anything other than annual boosters for around 5 years, both premiums are similar.

Petplan do not increase premiums after claims, so claiming or not claiming wont impact on next years premiums.

I'm with petplan, we claim for anything over £70.

The animals will be in transit to Sweden soon, it's nice to know that petplan will honour the cover until they arrive at our new home, it shows how much attention I pay to policy documents as I didn't realise they did this!
