  • Some days I miss them too but as I'm usually a few days behind I don't get chance to look through the boards to enter any I've missed.

    Hi
I am having some problems with a competition run by DK Publishing. It was their Roman Army competition. The first prize is a Wii, the second an ipod nano the third a collection of books.

I happened to get in at the start, you sign up and get points for logging in every day, doing weekly quizzes and referring friends. They said that monthly prizes would be awarded to the top 3 people.

I have been in the top three for the last month, in one place or another.

I emailed them asking when the winners selection date would be and they didn't reply.
Then at the end of september I emailed them again and they emailed back saying the competition had finished, that september had been the last month of a three month competition and that winners would be notified shortly.

They didnt' confirm what actual date they took the winners positions from, and I have not heard anything yet.

I'm just wondering - as I KNOW i won one of the three prizes, if they don't award a prize to me in the next month or so, can I contact someone and complain the competition was not run ethically?

I am hoping that won't happen and they will just get in touch soon, but time is going on and when they replied to me they could have let me know if I had won something. They haven't posted the competition has closed on the site or anything, so I just feel a bit nervous!

    Any advice please?

    Thanks

  • Hi everyone,

Not sure if I am posting in the right place, but here goes.

Can the organisers of a competition lawfully extend the closing date of a competition, after the deadline of the original date has passed?

In this instance, the closing date of a competition was stated in the copy (and its T&C's) as ending on the 8th Oct, now I see (after the 8th) they've changed it to the 17th. Nowhere in the competition's terms and conditions do they state that they reserve the right to alter such information.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

  • Tbh (andthis is just my opinion) I would think that unless people have paid to enter, when some sort of lottery regulations would kick in, then they can do pretty much whatever they want! I know the end dates do get moved fairly often :)

I'd like to know the answer to that. I entered a comp in my local newspaper last week. In the newspaper this week they have said they have extended the closing date due to there being only 4 entries due to the postal strike. Surely they should have drawn it out of those 4 if they were sticking by the rukes?

  • Whoops, it seems like I have double posted.

  • That's kinda my thinking Black saturn.

In this case, it is a caption competition, where you are only allowed to enter once AND you had to deliver the entry by hand. I am thinking that they have extended the deadline due to a low number of entries, when my opinion is that they should pick one from the ones they have already received by the original closing date (especially as my girlfriend's and I were in there!).

I just thought this was unfair as it offered a second chance to those who missed the deadline, plus extra thinking time, which the rest of us didn't have the luxury of.

Any advice re what to do if a competition you *know* you have won something on doesn't contact you to tell you you have won? (see my post above)

Worried my post is going to disappear and I am really unsure what to do next.

    Thanks

Kirsteen, I would email them for a list of winners, although they may say they can't give one until 28days after the comp closing.

Although - the competition appears still to be running
