Santander Charging for withdrawals in Spain

It's worthy news as I've never know any "proper" ATM anywhere in Europe charge for withdrawals. WIll make a point of avoid them.0

Non-Spanish, i.e. foreign cards. It's possible they will charge Spanish cardholders also, but more likely they just target foreigners. This is about the ATM making a charge, I think you have more in mind the usual non-sterling card fees made by Santander UK that are waived when using your card in a Spanish Santander ATM.
ISTR a few years back most Spanish ATMs charged holders of cards from other Spanish banks. So with my fee-free UK card I was actually paying less in charges than someone with a Spanish card from a different bank. Don't know if this is still the case though.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

I will be keeping my MSE eye on things next time I use my Santander card in a Santander ATM.....just in case.0

Is this surprising? See this website's own guidance ...

... where MoneySavingExpert lists fees associated with using your cards overseas; Santander being among the most expensive...
Scroll down to "Rule 8; the debit cards from hell"
And that's if you transact in Euros. If you fall for the old on screen message "Do you want us to convert to a guaranteed Sterling rate of XXX for you" scam and hit YES (as opposed to the better, but counter-intuitive NO), you'll be even worse off. Sometimes the sneakier ATMs don't even translate that message to English on-screen!0 -
I just came back from Tenerife and used my santander card on an ATM inside the Santander bank ( las americas) and was not charged to withdraw money, but I also used my cash passport card as well and was charged 5 euro to do so.
Hope that helps0 -

Incidentally doesn't stop Banco Santander ATMs offering DCC on Santander UK card withdrawals.
Seen the following list elsewhere on ATM charges at some banks/ATMs in Spain so I can make no guarantee on the accuracy, but it may be the start of a guide of people's experiences.Fees as of July 2017:
Deutsche Bank- no fee
Bankia- no fee
Popular- 1.50 euro fee
Caixabank- 3.00 euro fee
Santander- 5.00 euro fee0 -
We've never been charged using our Santandar card in a Santandar ATM, but not used it since end of April this year. Back in 4 weeks so will no doubt be using it again, along with the Clarity.0

I live in Spain and use my UK Santander card about 4-5 times a month in a Santander machine. No charge and get the best possible rateA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

That article is talking about cards issued by Santander UK.
This thread is talking about ATMs operated by Santander Spain.
Two completely different topics.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Just back from Spain (Balearic Islands) thought I'd add my experience as it may help people....
Sabadell €1.80
Caixabank €3.00
Popular ...No fee
Euronet ... No fee
Didn't try any others, but it does seem that a few in Spain are charging now, never had an issue before is it a new thing?0
