Special 3 day holiday for my 30th birthday

Hiya

I am hoping someone can help me. It is my 30th birthday at the end of the month and OH was supposed to arrange something nice for us both, but he has, unknown to me, not booked anything and everything is booked up.

I am quite annoyed now as I even gave him a couple of options were I wanted to go, and I know these were still available a couple of months ago, but he just couldn't be bothered and decided to leave it till now to tell me there is nothing booked.

I suppose I sound quite spoilt after re-reading what I have just wrote but I am not. I have never really celebrated my birthday in a special way, not even my 18th or 21st, so I really wanted this to be special. Also, no-one has ever wanted to look after the kids before for us, but as it is my 30th and the kids are a bit older my mum has offered to have them for three nights.

I am hoping someone could help me find somewhere special to spend the weekend beginning 26th October.

I don't mind if it is in UK or abroad, but if it is in UK it has to be easily reached by train as we don't have a car. If it is abroad we would be flying from Manchester. Budget is £400 max for the 2/3 nights.

I would like quite a relaxing holiday, as we are both normally quite busy people.

Really hope someone will help - I will be forever grateful :D

Thank you.

Fly to Shannon from MAnchester on 26th, return 28th for £87 total.with Ryanair

Get bus to nearby Limerick- don't know cost, but shouldn't be too bad.

then how about a nice hotel for a couple of night?

maybe the 'Absolute' Hotel.. check it on Tripadvisor.com

before you book anything you's better be 100% sure that DH hasn't planned a surprise party for you!

No, I know he has definately not arranged anything as he has asked me to help him find something as he is stuck since the places I wanted to go are booked up.

I don't know why he didn't book a couple of months ago - I assumed he had as I gave him the options, but I should of known really - he is the type of person to be running around on christmas eve to buy my present as though he didn't know christmas fell on 25th of December

I originally wanted to go to a luxury log cabin called poachers lodge

    http://www.griffonforest.co.uk/lodges.html

looks absolutely stunning - not surprised it got booked up.

There was also a couple of different log cabins but were no where near as nice as that one.

Was also looking at flying over to ibiza or somewhere, but am finding it difficult to get somewhere reasonably priced for 3 days.

I have been to Amsterdam before, I wasn't that keen as we kept getting hassled to buy drugs / give money and I felt quite intimidated.
  • Any more ideas please? Am getting slightly desperate now... :o

For that much of a budget for 3 days you have a good pick of places, I would recommend Rome or Barca or possible Prague?

You'll be more controlled by the price of flights then anything else, hotels shouldn't really be a problem just use TripAdvisor

Very similar to the Poachers lodge are the Muirloch lodge at www.piperdam.co.uk (just outside Dundee) You could get bus or train to Dundee, then taxi or bus to resort. There is a bus terminus right at the resort entrance

They have private hot tub, sauna + 4 poster. Very luxurious and secluded accom and good bar, resturaunt and spa on site as well as golf and loch fishing.
    That weekend would be £285

The OH and I stayed at Hilton Limerick who had an offer on dinner, bed and breakfast for £109 each (on Hilton.co.uk), very nice hotel, lovely food and lovely leisure centre. Best to hire a car as nothing much in Limerick but nice sights around!!! Have fun

Piperdam is easy to get to, wouldn't cost very much to get a taxi there from the railway station- I'd guess £10 tops.

It is a lovely part of the world, and of course you can get the bus into Dundee City Centre and visit Captian Scott's ship Discovery, go shopping in our Overgate Centre, or just go get p!!!ed in the many bars and restaurants scattered around town.

Nearby Broughty Ferry is also very pretty- an old fishing port that was also home to the richest row of houses in Europe in the last centuries because of the 'jute barons' who brought wealth to the city. Also has loads of nice pubs, and, if you like fish, a couple of good 'chippies' where you can have a sit down fish tea.Complete with bread and butter and a cup of tea!

Have you figured out yet that I live here?:D
