There's a certain familiarity to the posting style. I'm sure I've seen toys being thrown from prams in a very similar way before, especially with the accusations of bullying.
Just hope it hasn't put the OP off.

Hi. Just to add my point. For the last 16 years I worked in a Social Security office. On Halloween I got into a situation at the bus stop outside the office. The person at the bus stop knew my face and kicked off. I got assaulted and went off sick. After 5 months I was sacked by DWP as I could not give a return date. DO NOT trust any employer or the Trade Union.

Sounds nasty. What injury did you pick up that meant you couldn't return to work for 5+ months?

As I alluded to earlier, most physical injuries will heal after such an attack.

Perhaps the victims injuries were psychological which for those who have suffered from mental health, will understand that returning to work - particularly when that environment has caused the problem, can be problematic and some may suffer for a prolonged period and many never return to work.

Of course the injury could have been physical, so perhaps the poster could enlighten the thread.

I agree. We often have members in this position, and it is the psychological impact that is most significant. For the most part, with the exception of the most serious of attacks, which thankfully do not happen often, the physical injuries heal quite quickly. But for some people the fact that their chosen career has put them in the way of danger is too much. In some cases, even witnessing an attack on someone else can have the same impact. More often that not (although not always), the profession or career path chosen means that people have always known that there is some degree of risk, and whilst that can be managed it will not be eliminated. But even though people may be aware of the risk and think they can take it, that isn't always the case. In the main, employers are generally exceptionally supportive, and also more than willing to do whatever is needed to help someone recover - not because of the risk of legal action, but because they genuinely wish to support people who have placed themselves in harms way to do what are very difficult jobs. But in the end, if someone cannot return to work, and there is nowhere to redeploy them to, then they have to terminate their employment. That may sound harsh, but, in fact, it isn't really. In most cases people will have had a year to recover and return to work, even if that is on reduced hours. If they cannot return within that time, and haven't made a decision for themselves that they cannot return, it is sometimes the kindest thing that can be done for an employer to "move them on". That often makes them face the reality that they aren't returning to that line of work - ever. And pushes them to seek alternative careers, instead of being stuck in a rut of waiting for something to happen. Many then move on and are able to gain new employment and new challenges, and make a success of those.

    Hi all

Just an update to what's been happening. So the man who attacked my partner apparently has a colourful past in the other local shops of threatening staff and has been banned from a few, apart from the shop next door which the cheeky sod had the nerve to go in two days after attacking my partner!! He got his full name and address from this shop and given it to the police, they have taken a statement off my partner and CCTV and are going to get the shop next door to confirm his identity and then proceed with charges. Regarding since, my partner has not taken any time off work, but the whole way this has been treated is quite disguisting, it has barely been mentioned, just a quick r u ok? No courtesy call from head office, still no guard, and when he told one of the managers he would not go back on security he was told he will have to work later hours again (nice to know your cared about eh) we have spoken to his union rep for the area who is absolutely disguisted with how it's been dealt with. She isn't sure on the legal side so has urged my partner to ring their legal line tomorrow and speak to a solicitor. We ended up getting him checked out Wednesday night as he was suffering with bad headaches, he has been told it's more than likely soft tissue damage. Apart from that, it has been swept under the carpet and it's like nothing's happened. I am angry, my partner is hesitant in doing anything but I think a company who are so inconsiderate and complete a holes to not even check on his wellbeing or put safety aspects in place, then they deserve everything they get.

    Thanks for your replys.
