Not sure what you mean by "remote port information" is this in the Livebox? What does the link in post #5 tell you?

If your employers requires you to have a permanently static IP, do they? then you will have to go to an ISP that will provide this. If it's just a problem with the Livebox, then you could simply get a different router to use, which will keep the allocated IP until you reconnect again and cheaper than changing ISP.

It sounds like Orange give very short leases on the IP addresses and force a renew. Not a lot that you can do about this.

Best suggestion that I can give is that if you have completed your min contract with Orange then change to an ISP that gives you a static IP.

    hi espresso
the link in post 5 is what i am reffering too it give my address at the top then at the bottom of the page name, remote port and browser.
No they dont require a static IP,just a very stable one

I think thats what i was trying to day at the beginning of this thread !!!!!!,i am out of a contract but i really cant be without a connection whilst waiting for it to be switched.
Do you know of any ISP that offer a static IP and if there is any way i can switch without losing my connection ?

    Thanks again

Providing that you are not on an LLU line, migration to a new ISP does not involve a break in service.

ISPs that offer static IPs include Zen, any Entanet reseller (ADSL24, Vivaciti, UKFSN etc.). Zen is the more expensive but good quality. Entanet resellers are good as well and you also get more 'bang for your bucks' with them. Have a look at http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=entanet for other Entanet resellers.

I use Zen as a personal preference as these gave some extras that I needed at the time.

I think that you are worrying unnecessarily about the remote port changing, is your IP address stable? If I refresh the ipchicken page the remote port changes but the IP address remains the same.

If you change your ISP using a MAC, the changeover can happen in minutes. Old ISP stops working at some point during the day, man in the exchange jumpers you to your new ISP and you can be up and running again in ten minutes on your new ISP.

    hi
yes the address is stable .:D

I spoke to Orange about the MAC and they said it would be disconnected whilst they removed their equipment from the line and new ISP added their equipment

Get a Netgear DG834G which are around £40 from Ebuyer. It works with DynDNS so you create an account at DynDNS, put the same account details in the Netgear and everytime your IP address changes, the netgear contacts DynDNS and updates the info. Then to log into the server, you merely need to enter <nickname>.dyndns.org instead of the IP address and you're away.

With this way, your IP address for the Orange broadband could change every minute and the router would update DynDNS every time and you'd be able to access the server as I described.

How do you connect to your work system? Why is it relevant whether it is stable, just reconnect if the IP changes.

If you cant surf while connected, and are using a VPN, you may need to point IE at your employers proxy server.

    What software are you using?

If the Orange livebox is really dropping your connection on purpose (Which is unusual, it is supposed to be always on, and not randomly change IP while you are using it), it could be a line fault.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
