hiya
I am not sure if that is the correct term to use above but I currently have an orange livebox, which is apparently dynamic.
The problem is i need to connect to a server and everytime it is replacing IP address i am losing the connection:mad: .Because I work from home I need something that will only update approx every 24 or something i can set to renew at a certain time of the day.
I have spent all morning on the phone to ISP's and they are all saying that i will need to be without service for a couple of days to swap over to them:eek:
Someone has suggested that you are able to make a dynamic address more static but they were not sure how,can any of you techie people tell me if this is possible and how
,If it is possible how long would it normally take because i really need this in place by Monday
Thanks

Are you switching off your Livebox. You usually get a new IP when you connect, so don't disconnect. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

hiya
thanks for you speedy reply
No I am not switching the livebox off it is permanently switched on ,but when i have spoken to them they said the livebox is constantly updated throughout the day and there is no way to stop that
Sorry I only need it to be static for around 5 hours per day, which is the length of my shift
Thanks0 -
there are websites that keep track of your dynamic address & give out a static one to you
here's one

Not sure that I believe them about it updating throughout the day. Periodically check your IP for yourself here. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Check your IP now and then again after five hours, it will be the same. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks espresso,
Can you tell me what you think may be causing my problem then?
I was only told this yesterday and i haven't got the foggiest what else to try, because if i cannot continually connect to the server then i won't have a job :eek:0 -
Dyndns does not give you a static IP address.
It only ensures that your domain name is correctly pointing to your CURRENT IP address by using DNS servers with a very short TTLs, providing that you also run a client on your computer to update Dyndns when your IP changes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Not sure exactly what your problem is but the company that you work for may require you to have a static IP address, only they can tell you that. I don't believe that your IP will change throughout the day, as Orange have told you, so if it only needs to be the same IP address during your shift, you should be OK. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

well it doesn't sound like that is going to work because once i am working i dont have access to the internet to browse or change things.
Thanks again espresso,The company dont require a static connection, just a very stable one, however no one else is having problems apart from people with an orange connection
Any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again0
