Parking Charge at Peterborough Station

This morning, I received a Parking Charge notice from Parking Eye for Parking at Peterborough Train Station. The event was last Saturday and was for 13 minutes. It was whilst I was picking up a friend
I'd purposely tried to spend as little time as possible there and not to go into the actual car park - I parked outside on the road near where the police van is parked in the picture below. I did not leave the car at any point.
As well as not being too chuffed at the DVLA for giving my details away without my permission, I want to sort the matter. I'm certainly not going to pay it, so would people recommend appealing, or just ignoring it altogether.
I'd love to bill them for my time too, but that might be pushing it

Ignoring has not been advised here since the law changed in 2012.
Do the Parking Lie images show where the car was parked (it was parked even if you didn't get out) or does it just show the number plate?
Are there two images?
Have you read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES yet. This tells the keeper how to make the initial appeal. Do this by ending the BPA template in blue you will find there.
You need to take your own pictures to show where the car was parked in relation to entrance signage and the barriers.
Do any of the occupants have a GPS or android 'phone with GPA that can show the car never entered the car park?
You should edit your post to remove information about who did what. Only ever refer to The Driver and The Keeper who are two different people as far as anyone is concerned.I married my cousin. Thanks for your help, sadly the train station is 80 miles away from me, so I can't just pop down and take pictures. The notice just shows the number plate or at least just the back / front of the car. In the limited background you can see a part of the road which is outside the car park
I do have an Android phone, but I'm not sure if I can pull the old GPS information off of it. I'll take a look at the thread you mentionedWycombe Till I Die0 -
If you were parked not outside near the police van as you said in the OP, but in the area to the right which you described above as being outside the car park you may well have a problem.
This area has for many years been part of the car parking at the Station in various different guises.
I'm afraid a further visit to Peterborough by you looks almost inevitable, but may be a waste of time in the long run.0 -
If it's part of Peterborough station car park, the ticket would be issued by Virgin East Coast (they don't use ParkigEye unless they've suddenly changed their system), and the Railway Byelaws would apply.
As its Parking Eye it seems like it's another bit of private land, not under the Railway Byelaws. There seem to be no signs at all on the photo, let alone the unmissable variety that persuaded the Supreme Court to allow PE to include a penalty element in their contractual damages (PE v Beavis) . You can't enter into a parking contract if they don't tell you.0 -
As well as not being too chuffed at the DVLA for giving my details away without my permission,
They do not need your permission.
I'm certainly not going to pay it
You would be daft not to if they take you to court and win.
PE is one of the most vicious and litigious companies in the country. If you want to fight them do some, (a lot) of reading, especially land covered by Railway Bye-laws if applicable..You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
I received a Parking Charge notice from Parking Eye
Could you check that. There doesn't seem to be any past evidence of PE being thereparked outside on the road near where the police van is parked
Another oddity here. This looks like the highway rather than a private road so no PE, byelaws etc though harz99 seems to know it.This area has for many years been part of the car parking at the Station in various different guises.
The Peterborough Council definitive map is not clear so you might want to have a word with them tomorrow to see if they can confirm private road or highway.

There is a hotel located very close to this spot. I wonder if there are PE ANPR cameras located in the hotel car park that somehow pickup the car's number plate? What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Thanks for your help guys, I've just noticed, I got it wrong. It was when I parked in another car park WAITING to drive to the train station, it is listed as Thorpe Road, Peterborough.
Ironically I stopped there to avoid getting a parking charge at the station, I thought it was a pay and display. Looks like I might have to pay itWycombe Till I Die0 -
Looks like I might have to pay itPlease note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
