I just tried a little experiment on my extractor hood. I could barely feel any air flow with it switched on.

bear in mind that the outlet is a little 4" diameter pipe, but the inlet is a large area of mesh grilles. The air flow rate at the inlet is going to be a lot less.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

You need some way of seeing the airflow - try boiling a kettle and when it's steaming away out the spout, hold it under and around the hood, on maximum speed, and watch the flow of steam.

    Is this it

It says extraction and recirculation. If you bought it from those guys call them up as like you said it has 2 year labour and 5 year parts.

On right side of Web Page is a call back. If you did buy from them just fill in form and with luck they will call back but do it Monday.

I couldn't find any Manual or instructions on how to fit the cooker hood either.

Yes it is that one. I emailed them and it appears that the difference between ducting out and re-circulating is whether it was connected to a ducting hose that lead outside (which it is in my case).
did you install or inherit ?

    I installed.

There was no visible increase in speed. Although when I held the kettle to the side, the steam did flow into the extractor but at a very slow pace.

Whenever I cook with this extractor there is just steam all over the windows and the smell lingers and is not extracted away.

I did the paper (3cmx3cm) test on another extractor and it successfully held up the paper.

Is there any chance that the extractor is not powerful enough?

Do you open a window elsewhere in your home when using the extractor? With modern draughtproofed houses, fresh air to be drawn in somewhere otherwise the fan can't work properly.

Also worth checking that the ducting hasn't got crushed somewhere along the run.

How easy to get the cover off and disconnect the ducting?

    remove all the filters

3 speed you should be able to hear/feel the difference between settings

Stick a sheet of paper over the full area then see if there is still plenty of air flow outside(leaks into the housing).

not something like there was a protective cover over the grease filters that needs removing.

Did you seal the join between the flexible external ducting & the actual fan outlet when you installed the unit ??
Once round with some duct tape ??

Sorry probably should have made it clear. When I said installed I meant i got people to install it. I didn't personally install it myself.

call them back to look at it.
  • Both my daughters' zanussi and my brothers' extractor are exactly the same. Putting a sheet of paper over the grill and no suction! removing the grill reveals a large double ended motor and fan mounted horizontally. Re doing the paper test the fan works ok and the outside grill blows air. So why does this happen & why no suction where needed?
  • Did you open it and sanitize it?
