Cooker hood not extracting

Hi, I have the SIA CPE61SS (I would post the link but I'm a new user). There is air coming out of the exhaust but the hood doesn't actually seem to be sucking any air. I tried placing a small piece of paper up to the hood but it just falls down. What could be the causes of this? Thanks.

Hiya. How long has it been there? Is it ducted to the outside or is it run in recirculate mode blowing back into the room? Have you changed the grease filters recently (assuming they are in place as they should be)?

Oh they are washable grease filters, so: have the filters been washed recently/ever?

It's been over a year but the problem has existed since the beginning. I just never got around to trying to fix it but it's becoming a problem. It is ducted to the outisde and yes the filters are cleaned regularly. Even when I take off the filters there does not seem to be much airflow up or down.
  • You say air is being forced out the exhaust, are you testing this at the outlet spigot on the extract hood ?
The entire length of the extract duct and any grill (some have wall louvrer grills that open and close under fan pressure) has to work.

These may not be that powerful but if installed correctly and maintained it's adequate in operation and your test could be giving false assumptions. The large inlet surface where your paper test is conducted will have some draught for gas, smoke and vapour only over its entire surface and not sufficient to hold paper.

Maybe try a lit candle at hob level blow it out and see if the smoke is drawn up any quicker when switching the fan on.Try a few times.

When you take filter off can you see the fan blades if so switch cooker hood on and see if the blades are moving.
Some cooker hoods have a lever to move if you want extract air to out side or just use to go through filters and back in room. Check your manual

Yes I am testing this at the spigot outside of my house. There is a lot of air coming out of there, which makes me very confused as to where it's taking it from. I tried the candle test and there is no visible change in the smoke speed.

No the fan blades are not visible. I looked for a lever but I don't think there is one. I'm not sure this extractor has the option to switch between them.

This is the description of the product:
With options of ducted or re-circulating installation, this 60cm stainless steel curved glass cooker hood comes with a grease filter and is easily installed.
The ease of installation is accented by the modest price and guarantees. This hood comes with 5 years part guarantee and a 2 year labour guarantee.
This hood easily deals with grease and odour while you cook using its twin fan motor.

It does say it can do re-cirulation but from the wording, I assume it only means you can only install one or the other? If I somehow accidentally installed it as re-circulation, would there still be air coming out of the spigot? Do extractors usually support switching between both? Unfortunately I have lost the manual to check on this and can't find one online either.

I really want to show some pictures but I can't put links. The fan itself is enclosed so all I did was put it into the extractor with no need for wiring anything. Would the lever be in this enclosure meaning I would have had to open it up?

Can you locate the grease filter it should be the part you had your piece of paper. There will be a release device, its either a button, finger hole or lever,Pull it,slide it,push it and expect the grease filter to hinge downwards or fall out.

your extractor will be a mass produced unit, a generic unit with different names and slight different designs but the main parts ie fan, filters and housings are the same.Similar named extractors are- capel, belling, beko, electricq, glen dimplex and many more. maybe a search but add 60 or 600mm.

    SIA is the brand name,
    CPE is the model number,
    61 is the size mm,
    SS stainless steel,

    Is this it

    http://www.shipitappliances.com/cooker-hoods/60cm-cooker-hoods/sia-cpe61ss-60cm-3-colour-led-stainless-steel-cooker-hood-extractor-fan

It says extraction and recirculation. If you bought it from those guys call them up as like you said it has 2 year labour and 5 year parts.

On right side of Web Page is a call back. If you did buy from them just fill in form and with luck they will call back but do it Monday.

I couldn't find any Manual or instructions on how to fit the cooker hood either.

If the fan is sucking air out, but not from the hood, there is a leak somewhere. Can you put something very smelly at the exit end ( a squirt of deodorant ) and somehow blow air back into the house ?
