Hi there,
Is your friend a veteran of the UK or commonwealth forces, or did national service, if so, he may be eligible for help from the British Legion to help with rent or bond, brown and white goods, when/if he relocates?
Very good advice, check it for your mate. If he qualifies, there may also be help available from a relevant Service Benevolant Fund, EG Army BF, regimental,RAF, etc. Under Motability, there is also the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement.
But if you really want help and advice here, you need to stop putting backs up with your inflammatory comments and start looking at some of the suggestions offered.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Good point: As he is 82 he should have completed at least 2 years National Service (between the ages of 18 and 22), so RBL should be able to help - or SSAFA. You would be a good friend to this old chap by putting him in touch with these two charities.0 -
Further to the last National Service post by thorsoak;
The old chap would have been 18 in 1953, which means he may well have seen action in Korea. The WPMS may apply and it is a larger payment than Motability.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Well, I asked a pertinent question for assistance as is expected on a supposedly supportive website and was showered with vitriolic answers so I reacted. BTW I've noticed lately in various boards this type of reaction to someone asking for help has been responded with nastiness and I wonder what satisfaction these people derive from that. If this is the way UK society is heading I'm glad I live in another country.
He did do National Service in Egypt overseeing the work on the canal so I'll look into that.
Thanks for your help.You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Well, it would appear from your tale that society here is still better than Cebu. Is the weather nice there?
Good luck with your research..0 -

Tbh if he has the start of dementia he will need a lot of support. Does he know anyone over here who will help him relocate and no doubt there will be lots of beaurocracy to deal with.0

Since he is still married, can he not even now apply for a marriage visa, which I presume would give him residence rights? He'd be far better off remaining where he has been for 20 years surely, and his UK pension will go much further.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
