UK is in Europe for another 18 months :)
And will remain in Europe after that until continental drift sorts something out. We will however, leave the EU.

Does he have enough money to come back and stay in the UK for a few months in a b+b ? Could be that after a few months he could approach the council as homeless as may by then qualify as habitually resident. Where I live there , like most places is a shortage of social housing with the exception of independent living schemes (sheltered housing). They even lowered the age to 55 to fill these places. As an older person he is vulnerable. Telephone shelter for some advice.

Sheltered housing, as administered by Councils and/or Social landlords, gets no more government funding and is practically dead in the water. I know, because I live in a complex of 23 bungalows which used to be Sheltered Housing, under one of the largest Social landlords in the UK. There is no longer any support for us, apart from what is independently paid for. The landlord has begun renting and selling-off some of these properties in our area, to anyone. You are correct in that they dropped the qualifying age to 55, but it was never to "fill these places" - there has always been insufficient housing for the elderly and a long waiting list, even after the 'Bedroom Tax' was supposed to make them downsize. Private schemes exist, but are expensive to rent.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

I can't offer any advice but I hope your friend gets back safely, settles back in quickly, and enjoys being back in the UK. It must be a terribly worrying time for him.

I have a mate in Cebu who married a Filipino 8 years ago. He's 82 and she's half his age and wants to chuck him out of their home. I say their home but in Filipino law it's hers. He should have got a marriage visa after marrying her but didn't. As their marriage has broken up she wants to tell the authorities to get him deported back to the UK. He lives off a state UK pension and has no savings because she's milked him dry.

If he is deported, and he has a UK passport, what is the procedure? Will the authorities look after him etc?

    TIA

In many ways he is fortunate... men in his situation in the Philippines have an unfortunate habit of dying mysteriously.

What kind of "looking after" does he need? If he gets the full state pension his income will be about double mine, so he should be able to rent a place to live and pay the bills.
  • Hello, he can seek help from the UK embassy

I believe he's in the first stages of dementia, or worse, as he believes he chats to Trump on FB and gets paid for every 'like'. His wife isn't going to look after him and the health service over there is private. But if he's deported to the UK I assume he'll be cared for. Let's hope he is.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Original advice stands; look at the habitual residency test.

It ain't necessarily so! He has been out of the UK for over 20 years, and according to you, he is now 82 years of age. This means that he would have been eligible for his state pension from 65 years of age - three years after he emigrated. Does he have any family over here now?

    Hi there,
Is your friend a veteran of the UK or commonwealth forces, or did national service, if so, he may be eligible for help from the British Legion to help with rent or bond, brown and white goods, when/if he relocates?
