Urgent: Need laptop £300 and under

Options
Hi all,

I urgently need a laptop priced £300 and under (£250 and under ideally).

I am open to refurbished laptops.

I am a light business user and will require access to browsing and word processing. I also need to be able to download some light software.

I appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you :money:

  • While every time I mention Argos, I am criticised for mentioning them as selling flimsy plastic kit... they list a variety of laptops at good prices and have either same day delivery or pick up from your local store in a matter of minutes.

They stock Acer, Asus, Lenovo, etc. My £250 Asus has been a solid performer.

Thanks Frozen!!! I'll check out Argos.

I'm also interested in business refurbished laptops. Can anyone offer their thoughts on this?

    Thank you!

Is the Dell Outlet any good?

I notice a lot of people recommend MCS Technology.

As for laptops: Dell Inspirons and Latitudes seem to be best?

This is my first time buying a refurb and I want to get it right :money:

Dell outlet has been great for me but it is a bit of a game, imagine it like a warehouse where kit arrives several times a day.

When the warehouse gets a bit full they drop the prices, at other times they seem to leave them high for no apparent reason.

Many people on eBay buy from there, if they are approved Dell resellers they get more discount.

Coupons are issued in coupon section, the max tends to be 20% on Laptops but you have to check what price you are getting the best price on the site, that involves watching it for a while to get an idea of best price for the spec you want.

The kit on Dell site will be new so not as cheap as on some refurb models, your stated requirements are very basic, almost any Laptop would do.

If you have the budget to buy from Dell Outlet you will get machines with USB3. AC Wireless and maybe even an SSD. I use old laptops, have got better CPU's, Wireless AC PCI card and SSD.

What newer machines will have is better graphics and screen res.

It is worth your while to go to John Lewis and get a look at machines, but do not buy, if you go to PC World (the worst place to buy) some of the kit is not at all new, this is because they have a pretty slow channel.

Did you forget to mention that Dell Outlet quotes prices exclusive of VAT?
So they would need to find a machine priced at £200 on Dell Outlet in order to get a machine at their ideal price of £250.

The chances of finding a suitable machine priced at £200 on Dell Outlet is precisely zero.

Same machine in my post, but on Dell Outlet, is £330.08 inclusive of VAT. Dell puts the price exclusive of VAT in bold.

Contrary to DavidP24 assertion, the machine is marked as Scratch and Dent, so clearly not new.

The main caveat for me when it comes to this machine, is that it has Windows 10 Home installed as opposed to Professional. So not as versatile for business use. But you can still defer potentially annoying updates by utilising the Metered Connection option.

But if the little crack doesn't bother you, it represents good value at £250 inclusive of VAT

The machine in post #4 is not a bad option if portability is important to you and you can tolerate the relatively small screen. It's always nice to have an SSD fitted and you can probably run a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, as the original OS may have been Windows 8 Pro.

    Thank you so much everyone.

WAYT - That visual imperfection won't affect the machine or power button?

Also you state that grumpycrab's suggestion could be good. Is the CPU okay as grumpycrab expresses concerns?

Finally, what are your thoughts on the Inspiron 11s on Dell Outlet priced around £150?

Thank you! Your help means a lot.
